It's time to stop ignoring the fact that Asian comedians like Nigel Ng (Uncle Roger) and Steven He O'Byrne are incorporating historically racist elements in their acts. Their comedy features exaggerated accents and stereotypes, the very same used to normalize racism against Asians in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. These comedians who, like Asian comics of the past, have chosen to give up sell out their culture for personal gain by catering to an audience that are craving for the opportunity to laugh AT Asians. And in the process, these comedians generate fans who think like this - / @hanswhy
What's worse is they are emboldening the bigots of past and future, people who for the longest time would be afraid to openly mock the "Asian" accent due to the fear of consequence. But now they hide behind these comedians. "It's just a joke", after all. And who will stand up to them? The next generation of Asian youth who have been conditioned into thinking that this type of behaviour is normal?
Stop remaining silent. It's time to stand up against these comedians and the racist portion of their fanbase. Do not accept be a leaf in the wind and accept your fate as the butt of all jokes.
