Man, I'm Indian and it's similar to my race too! People use distorting and disturbing stuffs about India, mimicking our accent and same generation-Z Indians, who has become most westernized because of their inferiority complex of being such skin colour and race, laughs, mocks and get along with it! Mostly their audiences are western people who has now reason to laugh and mock us! I mean why, we were colonized and looted for almost 200 years, while being victim of invasions for a millennia! Anyway, that being said you earned yourself a decent follower my guy. You're doing for which you need guts! ❤️ I love Chinese and all asian cultures equally!
Even though I don't with your point of view, I'm glad you don't delete comments and actually engage with the people who disagree with you.
I have always found these guys annoying, there humour is equivalent to elementary humour. Like a fart joke… this shit gets old
I get reminded of my grandfather every time I watch Steven He's videos. My grandpa didn't throw shoes but he was tough , sometimes scarring, knew everything and I loved him very much. Joe from Winnipeg, white person.
As Chinese, their accent in the videos was very confusing to me the first time I watch them, because fluent or not, I never heard any English speaker in China have that kind of accent; like we do have accents, but it is way far from that. Now I realized what their intentions are, thank you.
The worst part is that while I don't get offended easily, hearing other people try and explain or retell their jokes, it's just embarrassing hear out loud. It really shows that the only thing that's funny to them about it is the accent.
This was a good take as an Asian who also grew up in the US, and was made fun of for being Asian. I also feel uncomfortable about the accents they fake (/used to have when they were learning English but don't have currently) and when you said they sold out other Asians for fame and money, yeah I felt that. It is true we're always treated as "the other" in non-Asian countries, so thanks for addressing this <3
You are 100% right people just don't want to hear it BC they dislike unpacking their predudice. Uncle Roger is a racist caricature of an Asian person who is marketing his mockery towards a racist western audience. That audience justifies it BC it's a "joke" but these jokes have a massive impact and have been a vessel for racism since the dawn of time. Good job for speaking up ignore the ignorant people in the comments.
When I was in Highschool, I sat (assigned seats) next to one white guy who watch Steven He and his whole personality was talking with the Asian accent and making fun of Asian culture. I always felt uncomfortable around him whenever he did that but never stood up for myself. Thank you for this video.
Having the ability to laugh about yourself and the stereotypes around your culture is just something that's appreciated, really. It shows humility and humor. Honestly that's exactly that kind of quality a lot of Asian people have that generally makes that minority in particular accepted and appreciated all around the Western world. We constantly take the piss out of each others and ourselves too, y'know? I don't really find anything weird with an Englishman putting on a shitty French accent for a bit, and even less with a Frenchmen putting on the same shitty French accent for a bit. Also, if I had to be honest, the accent they take is by far the weakest part of the joke and mostly just a signifier that they're doing an exaggerated bit, but that's just my two cents. If anything, I just think the accents jokes are kinda shit and always were.
I'm very happy that you are addressing this. I find these comedians disgusting. They bank on the idea that, e.g. it's okay to make black jokes if you're black, vice versa if you're white. But they aren't even making fun of their own accents, just stereotypically funny ones.
I'm Chinese, and although I don't watch Uncle Roger and have never heard of the guy before, I've watched a lot of Steven he and I approve of his type of humor. It's not really racist, and a lot of Asians are his subscribers and they all love him. I understand if you have had a difficult childhood because people bullied you because of your race, but there's a difference between racism and comedy based on Asians and their lifestyles and culture.
The comments in this video are very disappointing but not unexpected. This is a great video, you are hitting the right points and I appreciate that you posted it. It is clearly very much needed and I think it's really brave to keep it up after the amount of hate. It's exhausting to inform people that dont want to listen but I think this video is really important. Thank you.
I’m Asian and genuinely couldn’t careless, and why can I ONLY accept other races opinions instead of my own cultures? Honestly not letting us think for ourselves is more racist then these videos.
I see that this video has drawn out quite the cope from fellow asians who still decide to apologise on behalf of people like Nigel Ng and Steven He. Thank you for being a voice of reason in a world where reason is punished and ostracised!
FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION TO JUSTIFY RACISM IS NEVER ACCEPTED. REMEMBER THAT. Thank you for this Awareness Video, Hans Why. 🙏❤️
as an asian, i believe that uncle roger and steven he are both funny and relatable. these are not the people fueling asian hate. racism to people of asian descent shouldn't be solely blamed on social media influencers who teach non-asian people about food, family life, etc. after all, they are comedians. People joke about accents all time time, for example the British accent.
All these haters who hate on you are trying very hard not to be labeled snow flakes. As a 90s kid who was beaten and bullied, and constantly mocked with these accents, I find these morons off putting.
Nigel had the power to educate people about Asian cooking and various asian cultures more but instead spends his time being an Uncle Chan. And when he actually does do something educational its riddled with stereotyoes and questionable jokes
