8 PARTS OF SPEECH in English Grammar | Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb Etc. | Definitions & Examples

Hello Friends. Today we will learn about part of speech (English Grammar). First of all let see what part of speech defines?
English words are categorized into different types which is called as part of speech. Here words can be any English words such as Boy, women, dog, island, loudly and so on.
But Wait y it is important to learn part of speech?

Because It Describes how We use word in a sentence. There fore - Help us to analyze and construct good sentences.

There are Mainly eight parts of speech in the English Grammar are : noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.

Now we will discuss each of them.


1) THE NOUN
A word or name given to person place thing or idea is called noun.
A noun is a word used to name a person, place, thing, idea or feeling.

Example:- Emma Watson, Happiness, pen, White House, book, beauty. This all are name of a person place thing and name of feeling so this word can be called as noun.
And Remember my friends - Mainly, Noun is used with an article (A, An, The).

Friends this is just an introductory video of each section of part of speech.
If I explain each of them video become too long. And you may not find interesting. So I decided to upload detail video of each section shortly.


2) THE PRONOUN
A pronoun is a word used in place of one or more nouns.
Consider an Example:- Messi is footballer. He plays for Barcelona. Here you can see he is used instead of noun messi so he is pronoun

So, commonly used personal pronoun are:
I, me he, him it they, them
you she, her we, us
Businessmen complained about the change in policy. They said it had not warned them of the rules. [The pronouns they and them take the place of the noun Businessmen. The pronoun it takes the place of the noun policy.]


3) THE ADJECTIVE
An adjective is a word used to modify a noun or a pronoun. Or we can say it describes a noun.

Here, Modify means meaning of word.

For an Example :- The food is noun but it doesn’t make any sense. But if I say food is Testy, Salty , bitter and sour, [ Here, Testy gives more meaning to noun “food”.]
Eliza looks tall. [ Here, Tall gives more meaning to noun “Eliza”.]


4) THE VERB
A verb is a word that expresses action. And it’s plays major role to make a statement.
The action may be physical, such as learning,Walking, think, and so on. // hit, play, think, work, imagine.

Consider an Example :- Her hobby is Singing. [Singing is a verb. Because it perform an action.]
The catcher catches the ball. [Catches defines verb.]
The customer ordered the food. [Ordered is verb.]

Friends, Verb can be in V1 - Base Form V2 - Past Simple V3 - Past Participle.


5) THE ADVERB
An adverb is a word used to modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

Consider an example :-
She eats carefully. [Here Carefully says how she eat. Which means it modifies the verb and an adjective.]

Wait, It look similar like an adjective. Yes, But Important thing to remember in this, the adverb tells how, when, where, how often or how much the action of the verb is done.


6) THE PREPOSITION
A preposition is a word used to show the relation of a noun or pronoun to some other word in the sentence. Some of them are
to, at, after, on, but, for , underneath ,at ,from, until, before, in, unto, behind, into

For an Example :- I enjoy watching movies in the theaters. Here in is preposition. [The words between which the prepositions
show relationship are Watching and theaters.]

Tips: A preposition always appears in a phrase, Mostly at the beginning.



7) THE CONJUNCTION
A conjunction is a word that joins words or groups of words.

For Example :- Bring your notes and one ball pen. [Here Conjunction is “Bring” the group of word that the conjunction joins are Notes and Ball pen].
He Invited Bob and Shima. [Here also conjunction is And the group of word that the conjunction joins are Bob, shima.]



8) THE INTERJECTION
An interjection is a word that expresses emotion and has no grammatical relation to other words in the sentence.
A word which express the emotions.

Example :- oh!, ouch!, My goodness!, Hurry! ,Ah! ,Ouch! ,Alas!, hi!.

Consider an example sentence: - Oh! Its look so beautiful.
