Can Lawyers Lie?
Movies and TV shows like to paint lawyers as chronic liars, but legally, can they lie?
It is professional misconduct for a lawyer to engage in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.
If a lawyer engages in professional misconduct, then he or she can be subject to discipline, to include disbarment.
That means a lawyer who lies won’t be a lawyer for very long .
But one question that I get asked is…Can lawyers lie?
