Just Married at 71 & 65: Nursing Home Lovebirds Who Broke Taboos In India

Padmeswar Goala ,71, worked as a domestic helper and remained single his entire life, while Jayaprabha Bora, 65, never married because her father died before he could arrange a match for her. Left without anyone willing to care for them in their old age, they separately moved into Pramod Talukdar Old Age Memorial Home in 2024. But love finally found them here.

In a society where marriage and relationships much later in life are frowned upon, widowed or single seniors are expected to grow old alone. But with longer lifespans and a shift away from living in multigenerational households, more seniors in India are choosing their happiness over tradition.
