Buy here:echodelickrecords.bandcamp.com/album/time-wizardry…
A best-of selection of their demos & rarities, never before released on vinyl! Dive into the early days of the band, Side A features the demo they sent out before recording their now legendary “Long Distance Trip” album, when the band was still a three-piece consisting of Christian Peters (vocals & guitar), Thomas Vedder (drums) and Richard Behrens (bass). As an extra bonus, we have added the now sold-out “Midnight Boogie” (new version of the UFO classic) on the B-side, among other tracks.

The first two pieces were recorded in the summer of 2008, when I had just found the right bandmates: Richard Behrens (bass) via stonerrock.com and Thomas Vedder (drums) was suggested by a mutual friend. I had been rehearsing these tunes for about a year in various line-ups. "Singata" was an unreleased song from my time with Terraplane and it became the first piece we played in the new band project, initially in our "medieval" rehearsal room in Wernigerode, before I moved to Berlin in the late summer of 2007.

During the many rehearsals, "Double Freedom" developed from the acoustic version (song 3) into the almost half-hour monster piece on the famous "Long Distance Trip". Those were my hippie days and this sound, a kind of sitar doom, was the original vision of what I had in mind for the SAMSARA BLUES EXPERIMENT. After some hesitation and the usual financial drought of almost every young man, I bought my first sitar in 2006 and immediately recorded the parts for Terraplane's "Into The Unknown". The "Double Freedom" acoustic demo followed quickly.

In my mid-20s, in a tiny one room "Plattenbau"-apartment in rural Wernigerode, I was still just dreaming of what my life could become. Shy and introverted, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, I came in contact with like-minded people all over the world. There was Craig Williamson from Lamp Of The Universe, Queen Elephantine and a few others I could name as influences in those early days. The worldwide Stonerrock-scene was still fairly small but I've gotten to know some key characters (label owners, bands etc) while I was running Generated X-webzine, which specialized in stoner and psychedelic rock.

"Back To Life" then was the first song I created with SBE in the rehearsal room (how most of the songs were created: I played a few riffs until everyone was convinced to play along). At that time I was still in Potsdam with former Terraplane drummer Andreas Herbst, and various bass players. However, the recording dates to 2010 from the days as a quartet with the new rhythm guitarist Hans Eiselt. The song was exclusively released on a sampler by the Australian online magazine Planet Fuzz.

The UFO cover version of "Boogie" seems more a SBE song thanks to the long jam part. The early UFO albums were a big influence for me since my school days in the late 90s, I just loved all those space rock/early heavy boogies ever since I first heard "Prince Kajuku" one day on breakfast radio! Those were different times back then, though songs like that were already pretty "cold coffee". You were considered a bit of an oddball if you liked your parents' music, but I've always had a mind and taste of my own.

This LP is rounded off with an acoustic version of "Singata", which we rehearsed for the Rockpalast concert in 2012. It's not among my personal favorites, but the fans really liked the song, so it deserves to be re-released properly. I would like to thank all our supporters and fans once again. It may seem like a superficial phrase, but without you, it all would only have been half as amazing.

Thank you for everything, the memories remain!
