Canadian coffee shops renaming the Americano as "Canadiano" amid US tariff dispute

In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, a Montreal-area coffee shop, Coco & Bean, has rebranded a popular menu item.

The Americano is now called a "Canadiano," a move that reflects the cafe’s pride in its Canadian heritage.

Cafe manager Shauna Cordner explained that the name change is part of a lighthearted effort to assert national identity amid ongoing trade tensions with the U.S.

And it looks like this trend is catching on, with other Canadian coffee shops, like Duncan Garage Cafe and Bakery on Vancouver Island, adopting the same playful name change as a subtle yet meaningful stand during the trade dispute.
