For this Uzbek Plov War series, we have eaten at 5 places recommended by locals. You can see the plov we ordered, ate and rated all based on honest unbiased opinions, not influenced by any external forces.
Short Intro
Plov –Uzbekistan's beloved national dish, is a medley of rice, vegetables, meat and spices. Plov is extremely popular throughout the countries along the Silk Road, but it is especially special and important in Uzbekistan.
There are over a thousand of plov recipes and every restaurant and every household holds their own recipe closed to heart.
Every region in Uzbekistan also prepares plov differently. Bukharan people prepare plov with green gram. Samarkand plov is light while Fergana plov is brown. Samarkand people put meat, carrot, rice in layers and steam it. In Tashkent plov all ingredients are roasted at the beginning, and tons of oil are added to make this unbelievably delicious dish.
We spent months researching for the best places to eat plov in Tashkent, and finally shortlisted 5 places in the city.
We tried not to visit overly touristic places and go to where the locals eat. However, Besh Qozon, the Central Asian Plov Center is an institution with lots of history and characters that cannot be missed.
We will be posting 5 videos in the next weeks - one plov place each episode.
