Heavy rains lashed Kerala on Monday, forcing many residents to evacuate homes and seek shelter in relief camps. As the southwest monsoon intensified, several parts of the state experienced flooded streets, uprooted trees, power outages, and traffic disruptions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for 9 districts, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod—warning of extremely heavy rainfall.
Four other districts—Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Palakkad, and Alappuzha—were placed under an orange alert. Authorities have urged people to avoid travel and keep away from rivers, hills, and waterfalls, as water levels continue to rise across multiple regions.
