There used to be a time when this city counted only on her own water supply, with a network of local reservoirs and associated distribution systems. Victorian Waterworks, the collective name referring to Pokfulam Reservoir and Pokfulam Conduit feeding freshwater to the city of Victoria, used to be one of them. You may find a number of historical relics around the reservoir, including 5 masonry bridges, a watchman cottage, and a gauge basin all having already been declared monuments. Nevertheless, Pokfulam Conduit, including its numerous beautiful masonry aqueducts, has yet to gain such an heritage status. This was a personal quest to locate, identify, and document each and every surviving one of them before they're gone for good. I didn't expect that there's so much climbing, slipping and sliding and especially mosquito-feeding involved. But it was indeed quite a history lesson experienced rather than taught among the slopes, vegetation, streams and ravines that the conduit has to negotiate.
