How to Limit & STOP Police Searches

If you give consent for police to search your home or car, can you later withdraw that consent?

YES!

You can withdraw your consent at any time during the search, and the police must stop searching immediately.

You can also limit the scope of any consent (as in, “you can only search the living room” or “you can search the car, but NOT the console or glovebox”).

If you limit the scope of consent, the police cannot exceed the scope of the consent given.
