Karen Miller of Corvallis, Oregon, practices the traditional Japanese art of katazome. A former marine biologist, she now creates original stencils and works with rice paste to handcraft fabrics and textile art, often reflecting the abundant beauty of the ocean. Now, she’s part of a small group of artists who have mastered the process and teach it to others.
