Alexander the Great, born in 356 BCE in Pella, Macedonia, was one of history's most renowned military leaders. He inherited his father Philip II's kingdom of Macedonia at the age of 20 and quickly set out to fulfill his ambition of conquering the known world. His military campaigns expanded the Macedonian Empire from Greece to Egypt and into Persia, reaching as far east as India.
