hiiii !!! cricket time :]
i used to think these little noisy guys made their characteristic sound by rubbing their back legs or something like that, and i know i'm not the only one lol. but that's actually incorrect !
they do make sound by stridulation, which means rubbing together certain body parts to produce sound, but it's not their back legs what make the sound. it's actually a region on the underside of their wings !!
it's called file", and it's a row of tiiiny teeth-like structures. when they move their wings in a certain way, another region called "scraper" starts rubbing the teeth of the file annnd chirp chirp chirp.
there's another fun fact. producing sound is not only meant for male crickets to attract other females, but also they have other types of chirp, like an angry one when they encounter other males.
i find it so funny and cute how, instead of physically fighting like many other animals, they just throw bars and beef to each other. i love bugs so much omg.
anyway i hope u like this track and the little drawings !!! i'm kinda close to finishing the whole project and i'm so happy with how it's turning out :D
