A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.
I recently spent a full day in the studio and had the opportunity to tune up my SH-101. The pitch itself can be fine-tuned on the panel, but the problem was the tuning width, i.e. the distance from octave to octave, so the synth would sound mostly OK over one octave but out of tune beyond that. I was surprised at how easy it was to open up the SH-101 and fix the issue, despite the synthesizer being almost 40 years old.
And then, once it was on the table, I couldn't help but play around with it a little. And then of course a song emerged.
I wanted some accompaniment so I grabbed the Bastl Kastle ARP, a simple device with a lot of surprises in it, and some effects to complement the two voices. I find that with the SH-101, it sounds better when you keep it relatively dry and let the sound speak for itself.
Overall, a good end to a good day in the studio. Thanks for listening.
