India and the United States are advancing their civil nuclear collaboration, focusing on the development and deployment of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. NTPC Ltd., India's leading power producer, is in discussions with U.S.-based Holtec International Corp and other foreign firms to construct SMRs in India. These compact reactors are pivotal to India's goal of achieving 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, significantly contributing to its clean energy transition.
