NEW Polaris RMK 325 Series 9 Track & MY24 Changes

Polaris Snowmobiles Mountain Product Manager, Nels Eide, joins Mountain Sledder riders for a day riding some very fluffy and deep Montana pow!

Nels talks us through the changes to the model year 2024 RMK deep snow sleds, including the details of the brand new Series 9 325 track (3.25" lug).
New track, with additional tunnel clearancing
Dual extrovert drivers (same as Series 8)
Anti-stab wheels
Khaos and Pro share the same rail profile moving forward
Reversible scratchers effectively reduce engine temps down by 10-15˚C (20 - 25˚F) on trail (in our experience)

The day provided perfect deep snow riding conditions for testing out the new 325 track. It really does work very well at quickly getting the sled moving forward and up on top of the snow, as advertised. A couple of stucks were saved by the track (Boost and 9R engines contributed).
We also had a Pro RMK with a Series 8 275 track on hand, and we were able to discern a difference in the ability of that sled to chew its way out of a stuck situation, where the RMKs with 325 had a noticeably easier time of getting moving forward and popping back up on top of the snow in the same deep conditions.

One thing that Nels openly talked about (we just didn't film the conversation), is a 50 mph (80 km/h) speed limit restriction for riding on packed trails with the 325 Series 9 track. This limit is recommended by Polaris as a measure to prevent damage to the big 3.25" lug track. The problem with big lug tracks is that when the paddles pass the drivers and rear idler wheels at high speeds, it generates a lot of heat that, when sustained, can cause damage to the track.. This can become an issue on packed trails when there's not as much loose snow to cool the track and lubricate the sliders and clips, and where track speeds can easily become elevated.
Polaris will not restrict power above the speed limit, but it should be noted that the computer WILL record over-speed situations. After a sustained period of longer than four seconds above the track speed restriction, a warning will display on the gauge (both types) to let the rider know that they should slow down to preserve the health of the track.
The recommended maximum track speed for the Series 8 275 track is 60 mph (96 km/h).
