You are NOT the Father, but still pay child support?

What happens when a woman lies to a man about him being the father of her child and he raises that child as his own?

When the truth comes out, can he terminate his rights and end his obligation to pay child support?

It depends on the State.

States like Texas, Florida, and Georgia allow termination of rights (and obligations) if fraud is proven.

However, other states like New York, Illinois, and California can refuse to terminate rights if they believe that it would not be in the child’s best interest.

If rights are terminated, then so is future child support. But, that doesn’t mean past child support is forgiven.

Is that fair?
