Addressing Historical Trauma With Social Work in Indigenous Communities | Zoom In Zoom Out

Throughout much of Taiwan’s modern history, its Indigenous communities have faced oppression that forced unwelcome changes on the way they live, speak and practice their traditions. Today, the country’s social workers are trying to undo decades of historical trauma and discrimination, while calling for an end to stereotypes of Indigenous people. In this episode of Zoom In Zoom Out, Ciwang Teyra, associate professor at National Taiwan University and President of the Indigenous Social Work Association, discusses how social workers are helping to heal the scars of the past, and what is still needed to address historical inequalities.
