In this series of video's, we tackle a chorus of the F blues "Da Good Bits" with an improvised solo that shows saxophone phrasing and articulation. Mastery is key, so we repeat each 4-bar phrase 4 times before playing the entire solo 4 times.
You’ll see how improvisation on different instruments, like piano or guitar, can take on the breath and articulation of woodwinds.
At the end of this video, there’s a special aural challenge where you learn the next chorus without notation! Firstly at 98 bpm and then repeated 4 times at a slower speed. Can you learn it by ear?
The next video in the series will include the notation for this solo—keep practicing and safe musical journeys!"
