"In difficult times people ask more for simple solutions ..."
- I will lower the prices
- I will send them all home
- I will make America great again
etc.

@joolst1149

Every Empire always implodes under its hubris beliefs, greed & ignorance.

@Rotebuehl1

Democracy isn't "fragile", but it is vulnerable...

@Velveteen_Froggy

The people most responsible for a system failing will always be the people who have benefited the most from it. They seek to gain a foothold over others, they pursue and exploit every loophole they can find, and they twist the system to their advantage until it ultimately breaks.

It should be obvious that it is not the poor or immigrants or women or various minorities and marginalized groups who have that capability. It is always the people who hold enough power that they can manipulate the system in their favor. Never trust anyone who tries to redirect your anger away from those people.

@janheinbokel3969

This should be taugt in every American school

@fr2ncm9

The biggest challenge the U.S. faces is that most of its citizens can only read at a 6th-grade level. The high cost of education means that fewer adults go to post-secondary schools. I also believe that civics have been ignored for far too long.

@juamu1132

incompetence is why democracies fail.

@staceyxu6327

The amount of progressiveness before everything crashed and burned is so amazing. Current events are happening almost exactly as they did back then…

@OsirisIxchel

January 6th should have been a deal breaker for everyone who believes in democracy.

@evie1915

Not telling people the truth, but say what they want to hear, then doing as you wish, this kills democracy. We live in strange times, people are not listening to the truth, and choosing to believe misleading information. It is different but could lead the world back to the same place.

@fabianelsen3716

"Lessons from germany" we ourselves didnt even learn anything from. Most people vote hard right or extreme right parties anyway. Its frankly disgusting to witness. People just vote out of manufactured fear and hate. Completely unaware that they are worsening their own, and worse yet, other peoples lives.

@peneloperioux7246

Democracy has to be cultivated. It is not something that simply is, it is something that we do.

@gentlegiants1974

Sitting here in Canada, I feel like my ancestors felt sitting in Poland in the summer of 39... As our closest neighbour tears up and tramples on every single treaty that has been signed and openly applies economic force to crash our economy while warning that we cannot depend on them for any military assistance. Yes, we are part of NATO, but much like Poland was hoping for British military aid, the snowball was rolling down the mountain too fast for help to arrive. I wish people would study history. I hope no radio stations get "attacked' along the US border in the next few months.

@peterwong4779

Oligarchs is not Democracy

@aletheiai

“Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.” (1651)
The people of interbellum Germany had no historic precedent to warn them of the dangerous path they were on. A subset of Americans have failed to learn the lesson TWICE.

@onnes608

Exactly! So please support student protests in Serbia NOW!! These young people are fighting for the basics of democracy and it's main principles! Let's implement these lessons from the past now. Love to you all ❤

@syafiqsya465

Democracy, human rights and international laws just fancy words nowadays.

@HaadBajwa-g3e

Corruption and incompetence are the biggest factor. Other factors that are a threat to democracy is when leaders themselves undermine the democratic values. Internal fighting or civil unrest can lead to civil war and that off course lead to end of democracy. Democracy requires the harmonious coexistence of all. Military, civil servants, people, majority and minority religious and political. Complicated and difficult to execute thats why democracy is limited to very small population of the earth 🌎.

@airmanbooker

The worst mistake we ever made was continuing to allow children to graduate from high school without being literate in the era of social media. It has proven to be our undoing.

@TwiggyTwerm

The justice system has failed many innocent people over the years. ⚖
