I like hardware synths and VSTs. For different reasons. Hardware holds more value and is a pleasure to learn as a stand alone instrument. I don’t get that same pleasure from a VST. While a VST may very well replicate the sound of a digital synth and in many cases an analog synth, the circuit characteristics including the potentiometers, transistors and board production tend to make many hardware synths unique with age. Hard to replicate in every case but a VST uses no physical space - just CPU and memory. So they have benefits over the cost and peculiarities of hardware synths too. So long as I don’t have a VST of a hardware synth I own - I’m good with both. The Roland System 1 and 8 are an interesting hybrid of both.
