I plead no contest to a misdemeanor even though I was innocent, but it was cheaper than trying to fight the charge and with no contest it couldn’t be used against me in a custody case. So, it was a strategic move. I didn’t really care to fight it since it was just a misdemeanor. The fine was cheaper than going to trial and I  kept this out of my custody case.

If the only difference of pleading no contest is that your punishment cant be used against you later then why doesn't everyone plead no contest instead of guilty?

I will say, though, that pleading no contest feels a lot better because you didn’t admit it, and if the prosecutor objects to a no contest plea, that’s proof that it is better than a guilty plea
