@valmao91

6:02 araquanid often uses surf (mostly to hit physically defensive pokemon like great tusk really hard), and it still dishes out insane damage, so I wouldnt say its devastated by this

as for dondozo, it often uses body press for damage, so it will still mostly work. It would miss wave crash and avalanche though.

@Dragonstorm1234

Not having a special flying move makes literally no difference to Enamorus since it doesn't get one anyway

@hydoracles1120

If we never got the special/physical split. We would eventually get special moves [Elementals punches] that uses ATK stat instead of Sp. ATK, and physical moves [Mostly all ghost attacks and some darks moves] that uses the Special ATK stat instead.

There was a Pokemon Coliseum that added the “Shadow” type that change between being Physical or special depending of what attacking stat was higher.

@logval

also note: eeveelutions are all special types except dragon, so sylveon implies fairy would be special

@CuddlyTheMadElite

Dark being Special is due to the fact that Ghost was physical in Gens 1-3. Since Dark and Ghost offensively are extremely close, it makes the most sense to have one type be physical and the other type be special, although this definitely should have been flipped.

@LiIyBIack

Defensive mons would definitely be affected by this.
Something like Steelix or Aggron with very lopsided defensive stats never cared about their ground or fighting weakness before the split, but their other weaknesses were all special so they had no chance of taking those.
Types had a kind of identity in that way and even if a mon had a weakness to one, it might make up for that with its defensive stats.

@TheEuropeanFox

I must say, playback speed at 1.05x or 1.1x sounds more natural here

@Dragonstorm1234

"There's only 1 physical fairy move"
Play rough
Spirit break
And for those wondering there are only 5 special fairy moves
Moonblast,Dazzling gleam,Draining Kiss,Springtide storm and Fleur cannon (the last 2 only 1 pokemon gets)

@RVredacted

I kinda like this tbh. Maybe that’s why I fall back into playing the older games more often. I’d be okay with the Phys/Spec split to have never happened, but Dark should’ve been Phys, and Ghost Spec to begin with. It’s so dumb that they did the opposite.

@mylespope6203

I feel like this would affect VGC so much, most of the top picks would become forced to use their inferior stats for stab like Urshifu, Incineroar, Rillaboom, and even Flutter Mane losing ghost type moves

@josephguzington

Im confused. Araquanid already uses surf over liquidation in OU

@gokuworld

Never get sp def and sp atk split 😅

@jake9107

i liked the game just a tiny bit more before the phy/spec split

I think that the physical special split is good, but gamefreak should go through and gut the movesets of a lot of pokemon to bring back important aspects of the pre-physical special split. Not all pokemon should get a nicely aligning stab. Not all pokemon should even get to use stab effectively. And coverage needs to be gutted. The potential for giving niches would be unprecedented. Some pokemon could be given extremely powerful moves, but those moves might not be stab, or might not hit on their stronger attacking stat (think along the lines of sellow or flygon's boomburst). We could also have pokemon with incredibly weak stabs no matter what, and the point of using that pokemon would be something that attacks these certain types on these sides of physical special, but resist these other types on these sides of physical special.
But if not, nerf knock off and give dark types a real stab instead. Gut the distribution too.
Edit: an addendum-Types should still have archetypes, but we should blur the lines and the niches of general types and specific pokemon a little.

love the video

4:10 I think it's moreso because Dark was very similar to Ghost in terms of type matchups and they didn't want to have two nearly identical types to also share a damage category. I doubt they had the "all Eeveelutions have special types" thing in mind, if it's even real and not just a coincidence.
