I much prefer the vanilla look of the Forsaken areas. Just decrepit, gloomy, cobweb strewn, old and forgotten human structures. It held such a quiet melancholy, and back in the day when I played vanilla as a teenager I felt so emotionally connected to that. I was so immersed in the feeling of being the Forsaken that to this day I feel such nostalgia for it when I think about running around Silverpine and Shadowfang Keep and Undercity. This music transports me. <3
Something I just noticed (that I think is cool) about Forsaken music is that during some parts in the soundtrack in the background, you have this ghostly choir of men singing (2:13). But, when it comes to Human music, like Stormwind's soundtrack, it is mostly all a choir of male voices. Kind of interesting how it's like that. It reminded me of how the Forsaken used to be alive and human and still have some humanish parts to them. The music really portrays well how the Forsaken used to be human but have been totally changed.
At a friend's behest, I made my first character in WoW; an undead mage, back in 2007. So disinterested was I in the concept of WoW, I named him Tenakakhanum, the "um" tacked on as the primary name was taken. I fell wholly in love with the game. Eleven years later, I just ported Tenakakhanum onto my main server, and he and I are going to finish what we started in '07. I love this game and I love the undead zones, this is sheer, blissful nostalgia!
I remember my first steps into the old silverpine forest, when I've got a quest from Brill for the tomp... of course it was at night... and I was totally alone... it was a scary long way into the forest... never forget! I love this zone until today and from time to time I take a visit to it and look for the son of Arugal...! 😱😉 thanks especially for doing this vid! 👍 many memories coming up
The music and the atmosphere is just the best thing in this game <3
When I was 12, I made my first undead character “Eaturfaceoff”... I’ll never enjoy a leveling atmosphere more than the Forsaken’s
One of my first characters was an undead warrior named Silentkiller on Darkspear US. I remember playing through here thinking the undead had such a cool story back when I was 10 and really enjoying the atmosphere. Then my brother asked me how I wasn't scared cuz everything was so spooky. After that I got really scared cuz I overthought it and had to change races and start over. I still always think about the way my impression of the game was shaped by those atmospheric first moments of my gameplay. It was such a crazy new world coming from a few grindier korean MMOs back then. I was immersed as hell. And to be honest it's why I can never just skip quest text even to this day. I can still manage to immerse myself today as I used to back in Vanilla, the adventure just kind of ends quickly since level cap isn't so far away anymore. Then the game is just down to systems, numbers, and mechanics by end game. I wish i could reset time and start it all over again. And maybe not be too scared to continue playing as Undead.
everness u finaly did it. my favourite map of wow. thats for bringing all these memories from vanilla back...
Two days ago, I wanted to listen to this zone's music and I searched it on your channel, but couldn't find it. Now, two days later, you upload it. You're a saint. <3
Back during retail wow's early days (or wow classic but I never tried it, presume its like the private servers before it), this zone was a first for many reasons. It was the first time new players of the horde encountered remnants of the Scourge (which you find in other zones later on, hinting to wotlk years later), a rumor of a worgen curse, the gnolls (and for some reason, they took over the castle in the lake) and the remnants of some wizards nearby. It also was the earliest horde players would encounter (outside of spider caves) status effects like poison, curses and disease. Which is one of the reasons people avoided the place, it was too dangerous. It was also one of the first places you'd encounter not only elite enemies south-west of the map, but higher-leveled players since there was a lvl 30-ish dungeon nearby. All the while feeling like something or someone was watching you. Which doesn't help when bears, ghouls and spiders chase you down the road.
I always recall the gates of Gilneas sealed shut with refugees sitting on the fringe. I contemplated next to them what hid on the other side of that wall. By the time Worgens arrived, I had already quit (banned just before Wrath), and only picked the game up again at end of Legion. Whether subbed or not, the old music reminds me of those time more than any of the other passing friends I lost from back then.
everness, i always wanted to say to u that the kind of animation u did in the video of crystalsong forest was very nice. the slow motion was nice to look at. maybe u could do more videos like that!:) keep up ur great work!!!
Beware, Beware, the Sons of Arugal
One of the zones I always go back to and ride around when I get on my 1-20 accounts. I used to find the zone so boring when I first played, always did Eversong and Ghostlands, but it grew on me a lot over time:)
Cataclysm 7 is such a soothing song, pretty sad though.
I remember way back in the day how Silverpine felt like an unfinished afterthought in Vanilla...there was stuff there, but it didn't seem like they "completed" the zone...
I am an alliance. It is the first time I have heard this song, I have reproduced it to study. Love it.
The real masterpiece starts at 17:29
