The lyric changes is not the fault of the Riverdale writers actually! They come from the High School Edition which makes sense for them to make since 1) it's the licensed version and 2) they're in high school. It was made by the original composers and writers so yeah. I think they only changed a couple things but barely, most, if not 99% of the changes come from the High School Edition script!

I genuinely feel like I played some part in this episode being made because when I was like 12 or whatever I tweeted Roberto Aguirre Sacasa BEGGING for a Heathers episode to be made. It was one of the only tweets I’ve ever made.

Yess this is what we’ve been waiting for!!!! You should for sure watch the next to normal episode, it’s super interesting because it all happens in Betty’s mum’s head after two of her children die (heavy, I know). Also happy anniversary of the iconic Heathers video!! I go back and rewatch that more often than I should haha

The Riverdale episode was actually what induced me to The Heathers. Now fast forward to like five years later to me listening to the musical and knowing the lyrics just because of frickin Riverdale.

14:12 why would they cut out the high part it's literally so much fun to sing, I'm younger than this cast of people and yet I sang Lifeboat in it's entirety at a voice recital, yes with the high part, people clapped and cheered when I got that high note (my voice teacher and several of my peers said I would 100% be able to play Heather McNamara if I ever got the chance)

They actually released full versions of some of the songs. For instance there is a version of Lifeboat sung by Veronica/Camilla Mendez that includes the high part. Not sure why they cut it from the actual episode.
