legends arise due to the lack of credible information about history of a place or ruler..india in the past was really uneducated society at large with serious lack of formal education and also due to the lack of credible written information..in the name of history we just have self praising memoirs of kings and sultans..therefore such voids are filled in by such stories and legends which were interesting and believable at that time...
