I still compare spring and summer to the fantastically wonderful summer of 1976, when on March 9th I was sunbathing on the fo'csle of a Royal Navy warship whilst doing Fishery Protection duties of the Northern Irish coast, and swimming in Cawsands Bay many evenings every week after work in the concrete frigate HMS Fisgard, all summer long.
We certainly need the rain & it's not just gardeners or farmers that need it, wildlife rescues are having a lot of animals in suffering with severe dehydration, they just can find water! A situation not helped by the fact that most people don't think or care about leaving shallow bowls of water out in their front & back gardens for wildlife.
Cheers form the continent. Yes still watching UK weather service because it´s one of the best.
We really need some rain in west Wales! Our farm well is nearly dry - so we, the animals and our potted plants are dependent on our stored rainwater supplies. Scary!
Smashing stuff Alex! Here in Norfolk we could do with three or four days solid rain just to damp things down and help the farmers and gardeners.
Not a question, but having working with databases for the 30 years before I retired, I am impressed by the amount of computing power that must be behind your display screen. With my rapidly deteriorating brain I still can’t get used to the fact that my iPhone has 128 times more memory than the VAX that used to run Oracle for two large databases, and was the email server for our research institute.
Interesting about the NI radar station being out of action and also seeing the radar areas around the UK. Would be great to have a whole deep dive on how the radar station reports are used in forecasts. QUESTION Why isn't there any radar cover for Shetland?
Another amazing deep dive thank you Alex! I always look forward to these and learning more about what influences our weather! As always really appreciate the time and effort it takes to make these each week considering how busy you all are!
9:58 Love your enthusiasm and energy here brother! Really nicely delivered and easy to understand.
Much needed rain
Thanks Maureen,It's always a pleasure watching the deep dive
Thanks Alex!
Thanks for the deep dive Alex
Thanks Alex very good deep dive again xx
Great deep dive as always. The feature bringing the showers and rain to the southwest tonight and tomorrow was not really in the forecast until very recently. Can you explain why the models didn't pick this up? Thanks
Very informative. Thanks Alex.
Thanks for the deep dive alex
Thanks, Alex. That's interesting, as we often don't think about routine maintenance of the weather radars and the implications of such outages.
