So, the US built a giant specialized vehicle to Antarctica, but no one realized that slick tires don't work on snow and ice... what were they thinking ??? meanwhile, years later, when the Australians wanted to provide motorized transportation for their own Antarctic base, they simply brought along a VW Beetle which proved to work just fine.
