Cute vocaloid songs with with ominous dark lyrics "Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down"
Finding out that Mesmerizer is some people’s introduction to Kasane Teto honestly feels wild to me
The secret sauce to Mesmerizers success is something I'll call, the FNaF effect. It's got just enough lore for it to be concise but with room for speculation. Then that lore is not made readily apparent so you gotta go to other people to catch what you missed. Then the younger members of the fandom run with it and it becomes babys first hyper fixation and spreads like wild fire. The lesion to take away is kids yearn for the LORE.
every song animated by that guy is now bound to become a global phenomenon, it's like magic
Honestly, I think it's because Mesmerizer is the first dark Vocaloid song that new fans are being shown. They're excited to share something cool they discovered, even if it's nowhere NEAR as dark as a few of my long-time favorites.
i thought mesmerizer would replace the triple baka thats been looping in my head for way too many years, it did not.
I saw it on my youtube shorts feed once, and I thought “oh hey cool I haven’t seen teto in a while” and then I would see mesmerizer on my feed every few minutes 😭
I remember following Caststation's social media and seeing promos for the song. I had a feeling it would get big due to their name being attached, but not quite to this level Also, the Mesmerizer lost media thing didn't exactly come from nowhere. It's part of a trend called "AU lostwave" where people upload snippets of well-known songs in low quality and everyone acts as if they were in an alternate universe where the full version is lost. There's one of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper with that has even more views than the Mesmerizer one last time I checked.
Also I'm not sure if I agree. If you look, Miku dressed like a waitress in a diner, whereas Teto is dressed a bit more formally, like a manager position. It starts with Miku being happy and satisfied with her job and her life, but soon it becomes almost mechanical, like she's been mesmerized. If you look, Teto is mesmerized by the end as well, likely because of the sadness she is struck with from watching Miku go from being happy all the time to being a mechanical robot, the spark in her eyes gone, leaving them cold and barren black holes. As Miku is getting treated poorly by the customers, it takes a visible toll on her mental health, leading to her making a decision to stuff all her emotions away, which was likely the days night scene. Teto only manages to resist the hypnosis because she knows how to handle it, unlike Miku who seems to only be at an entry level position. Miku also states "You're tailor-made for this era" which could be a call to terrible work conditions and everyone being expected to follow orders, do as they're told, and not question anything. Children go to school, teens and young adults go to college, adults go to work, seniors either work, retire into a nursing home, or get filled with medications to the point they aren't treated as humans. Teto also claims that "Your extra lives are quickly running out" which could mean one of two things; either it calls out that if someone messes up too many times (extra lives running out) they get thrown out, which would be a game over in this instance. Teto is asking for help to escape because she's fallen too deep into the cycle and needs help or encouragement to escape. Teto gets mesmerized by the end because even though she's used to the job, it must take a toll on you to see someone who used to always be happy turn into a piece of machinery with a plastic smile. Although Neru isn't in the song, when people draw her, they put her in the same outfit as Teto, but I would say as a CEO rather than a manager because she seems to be the one behind the hypnosis, or the company that Miku and Teto are working at. It seems like Neru isn't providing the best working conditions because she's always shown as being the one mesmerizing the two. Either she's ignoring the issues or is just straight up causing them. Personally I think Mesmerizer is a callout to the terrible life people are expected to live, with almost no freedom, and that freedom is always taken away.
14:57 Mesmerizer gets like +2m views every week i dont think its slowing down THAT much lmao, great vid!
well.. it IS mesmerizing. Like quite literally It’s eyecatching with bright colors and keeps your attention like a kid’s show. It MAKES you watch to the end!
In my opinion there is a lot of different directions you can take the story of Mesmerizer. I personally see it as a story of how oppressive the average job can be nowadays, because Miku and Teto are both wearing outfits that you might link to fast food restaurants like Sonic or Dairy Queen. I personally imagine that Miku is newer to the job industry this is not used to the oppressive environment thus becomes trapped in the job; while Teto has been in the job for a while "because her outfit is similar to one you might see being worn by hire ups" and because Teto has been in the job for longer she is resistant to how oppressive it is and is able to live a relatively normal life until the very end of the song where you can see her eyes go black.
You know it is a problem when suwawako is talking about channelcaststation
Ironic that Neru not being in the song's PV made her even more popular than she ever was lol. Smith Hioka(Neru's creator) is thankfully a fluent english speaker and said he was so surprised to see her rise again in the overseas community. The nostalgic Vocafans of nico douga also joined in, Caffein chimed in as well, everyone saying that the Triple Baka group is stronger than ever out of the blue lol. I love this fandom.
I remember watching it the day after it came out like “Oh this is cool! I’ll tell my friend about it later” Only to find out she already watched it too, and then a week later it was everywhere
My ass made a whole story based of it It's crazy
Small correction, the hand gesture at 4:19 is not ASL. I'm not as familiar with that signal, but I believe it is used by survivors of abuse/trafficking/domestic violence to subtly alert a safe person that they need help. Teto does sign "help" at a different point in the music video. It looks like a thumbs-up gesture being raised upward on the palm of her opposite hand.
I'm one of the six remaining Nerufans! Just one thing, Neru isn't exactly an "Anti-Miku" she represents a worker of the Anti-Miku agency (In that time when Miku disappeared from Google and Yahoo! There was a popular theory that said that the "DEN2" agency was the responsible.) exactly Neru being the worker who make spam in 2channel, she works with those who despise Miku and her fans but ironically she has an unfinished Miku cosplay, because she admires her, that's why she was represented as tsundere. 🤓🔥
i swear miku sings "ka-sa-ne" in the first chorus. but she sings "da-ma-sa-re-ru"
