Her wearing makeup actually symbolizes when she is high because when she is on a high she gets happier and it is true to the video it is chaotic and does represent her.
Maturing is realising that: Jule wasn’t good for Rue :/
I always had the feeling Rue's makeup was reflecting her mental state. It always seemed messy like you said, it was almost like she was 'losing it' inside. Like her head was too messy and chaotic and pained. But Nate also had that type of makeup once (can't remember which scene) and I got the same vibes. I really appreciate whoever's idea it was for their character's makeup to reflect themselves. Like how Maddy's makeup got subtler in season 2 reflecting her "maturing" and moving on.
Good points. I also think, in a weird way, Rue is the one who sees things the clearest and barest, being the narrator of the show with access to the deepest traumas and shame of the other characters. All of her core issues are on the surface for all to see, with everyone knowing she has a parent who died, has been to rehab, and attends NA. She has trouble hiding her feelings behind a mask and is, in a way, the most emotionally honest character on the show.
Why do I get the impression that euphoria sounds like traumatizing show-- I'm scared to watch it for some reason
Season 1 was so amazingly laid out and a masterpiece. I wish season 2 didn't change the narrative and fall off the way it did. I mean it's ok, but season 1 is amazing.
rue's makeup breakdown is actually very relatable to me now that somebody put it that way
I think it also symbolizes the struggles of being a drug addict. She’s suffering, struggling (hence the tears) but feeling good and anesthetized (the glitter and the stars).
Also can we just appreciate how FLAWLESS Zendaya is like my god
Jules is the one who does the sparkly tears makeup for her and then is the one who makes her cry later on in the episode. I just love that, goes to show the thought and detail put into psychological and emotional connotations of each look. Makeup is something most ppl would not consider to be symbolic right off the bat because it’s easily overlooked, but in euphoria it shows you literally what they character is feeling.
Great analysis but I will add that as a female recovering drug addict I think that addiction maybe a huge reason as to why she doesn't wear much makeup. Addiction can be brought on because of a major lack of love for ourselves. A lot of addicts feel ugly inside and out. We really don't feel worthy of a lot of things, especially self care, makeup being a form of self care. Addicts feel guilty for doing drugs, for having issues, we continually feel the need to punish ourselves, we can punish ourselves by not letting ourselves put effort into our appearance. We also get to the point where our illness won't even let us care about ourselves anymore, mentally and physically, hygiene and appearance included. When you're physically addicted to drugs, even if you're not as hard on yourself mentally as some, sometimes you become so physically dependant that you don't even want to get up out of bed without drugs, let alone do makeup. When I was pill sick the last thing I cared about was my makeup, I cared about getting another pill
yesss, love this. when I was in grade school, it was my clothes rather than makeup. at the beginning of the year, outfits were always on point, details coordinated to a tee, reflective of me. but as the year went on, it was literally the same hoodie, everyday. wasn't until my science teacher, who couldn't give a shit about fashion or clothes, told me, "you've got to get back to you". wasn't until I got older, I realized I was really going through it.
I feel like the messy and imprecise quality of her makeup reflects how rue chases the quick dopamine high that drugs give her. It’s not good for her but she doesn’t care because she just wants to feel something. The makeup isn’t technical or pristine but it’s messy and beautiful. They did amazing with her looks on the show
so real tho ..i felt for her fr
I love ALL of them, I really loved this show sm! Thank you for this video!❤❤ Rue was great at her role. 🎉
her lack of make up may also be cuz she's on dr*gs so her emotional state is kinda unclear and surpressed (no intense emotions cuz she's kinda in an empty state? so she doesn't have make up i just ate a pack of gummies im probably delusional dont mind me
Can you do juuls if you haven't already? Please!!!
Seriously appreciate the “don’t lie about serious stuff as a prank” stance; my mom used to prank me by telling me she was pregnant or that we’d won the lottery (those two specifically she repeated a lot) and would fully get me on board like several minutes of convincing me, then say it was a prank. And not even when I was old, she did this when I was really little all through to my twenties, so now I just don’t believe her when she tells me anything serious or important because I can’t trust that it’s not her just messing with me, and she’ll spend like ten minutes trying to convince me and it pisses me off.
no make up make up look is my fave too
