I'm a retired painting contractor with 50 years experience. You without a doubt give the best painting tips on YouTube. Haven't seen one yet that I disagree with ...... although I might have put tape over the top of the baseboard to avoid those pesky little dots coming off the roller when the wall is a darker color. ;-)
I watched this video 10 times before painting my room. My wife LOVED the job I did. Thanks so much.
My dad never taught me a thing despite being a great craftsman, the booze came first, Im blessed to be born at a time where I can watch and learn from guys like you, thanks man. Shane from Ireland
From one professional to another, this man is 100%. That is rare for YouTube ๐ . Spot on pointing out the (lazy) mistakes
Thanks to you, I have just about completed my first bedroom. I'm 70 never used a paint roller or sanded walls. We have a 120 yo home. The ceiling has not been touched by us , 35 year owners. Due to health problems, I got a painter in to do this. I used a sealer on the woodwork and it looks awesome. No paint on the carpet either! So this year, I've conquered the roller, sprayer, and caulking. Thanks to you. I'm so pleased I could be bothered to try. I've also sanded french doors stained and varnished, reglazed them and hung them back up again with new hardware Inc hinges. I'm on a roll!
I want to paint a bedroom for first time and I watched painting for beginners and it amazed me on different things that painters that painted my house did not do the things I watched you do. Now I need to get started.
Have a bucket with warm water and rag nearby to instantly wipe any small error. After sanding, run your dry hand across the wall, if there is dust from sanding wipe the walls clean. Use a mildly sticky roller on your paint roller to remove loose fibers before using it to paint @ 15:49 he removes some fibers from the wall. Before you start cutting in with the brush, load up your roller and leave it in the paint tray (not in the paint area) and place the tray in a 13-gallon garbage bag (so it doesn't start to dry out), this preps the roller & gives time for the paint to soak in.
Not only do you give expert advice, but as a narrator/presentor, I really appreciate how easy you are to listen to. No BS, no annoying inflection, just straight to the point, but still being interesting wnough to not get bored watching it. This video helped immensely, thank you.
I admire people who take their time to help others.
Iโm actually a 13 year old who is planning to start a painting business in a few years! Your videos are very helpful considering Iโm trying to learn the basics now before I take an education on it or get more advanced. Thank you ๐
I am a 15 year professional painter. I completely endorse this video. Great advice. But the truth is most homeowners just don't have the patience to do this. Some do. I've seen fantastic homeowner paint work and absolute disaster. I'd say the wet edge that you mentioned is one of the most important details you addressed. Rolling somewhat "quickly" helps the wet edge so it all drys uniformly. Another pro tip is try to finish each roll stroke from top to bottom so all the stipple matches. Also the lower the sheen the better the hide on imperfections or any high or low spots on the sheetrock seems. Love your videos. Well done
AI will never ever come close to a human who teaches with PASSION. Came for the painting and stayed for the vibe ๐๐ป๐ thanks!!
I've painted my whole house like a pro and it's all thanks to you. You taught me everything worth knowing when it comes to painting like a pro. When people ask how I knew what I was doing, I say uncle Jeff taught me! ๐
Notes! Remove cover plates Dust and sand wall Open and mix paint Angle brush to quarter inch away from edges until loaded with paint (let it fan out) Gradually sneak up on edge to cut Paint all edges, including under cover plates (about 4โ) Wash angle brush immediately Pour paint into liner and load up roller brush Start very gently, go over uneven areas, stretch out paint Cling to wet edge, keep lead edge wet, no breaks! Pull out lint and back-roll, consistent texture Never change direction (always vertical!) short rolls when necessary Give at least an hour Sand the wall again Load up angle brush, and wipe post of paint off, use less this time Precision cut all edges on wall Roller the wall for second coat (donโt move on to other wall), lighter layer Clean paint out of roller sleeve (throw away roller sleeve?) Donโt hang anything on wall for 48 hours or so, and wait 30 days before washing
THANK YOU. I decided to repaint my entire (new/first) house recently. Iโd never even painted a single wall before and Iโm 39. Iโm about 1/4 of the way done with my massive project. Wanted to make sure ya knew just how damn helpful (all of) your videos are. Thanks!!
I know this is two years old, but this video saved my life with one sentence: "None of this W rubbish" . I was getting so anxious about starting to paint my house myself because everyone i spoke to said I need to paint in a W or M!! โคโคโค
I've painted my entire house (walls, ceiling) and your videos were what gave me the confidence to do it! Not to mention learning that DIY stuff doesn't have to be this daunting, weird thing. Appreciate your content!
My husband and I watched this videos before painting the whole downstairs of our home with 20 ft ceilings we brought all products recommended. Our home look as if it was painted by professionals!!!! Our cut work is spectacular. I promise you if you do everything as explained youโll never need a professional to paint your home again. THE CUT WORK โค๏ธโ๐ฅ๐๐ฅฐ You saved us about $1800 which is the cheapest estimate we got from contractors. THANKS!!!
Holy mackerel! Wife and I painted our living room and hallway recently and just about everything you said NOT to do, we did ๐. Weโre doing the kitchen next and we will do it right this time. Thanks!
