That Ibis and dynamic range on the S5 make this camera a must cop
Yeah, apart from the IBIS test, I’ve also noticed how pronounced is the aliasing on the GH5. The S5 footage is a tiny bit less sharp than the GH5‘s in 120p but doesn’t have that crazy amount of aliasing. And since I’ve worked with both cameras, I know that moire and aliasing is not really fixable with an upscaling software whereas the slightly less sharp S&Q footage of the S5 can look amazing with VEAI upscaling to 4K. Great video, thanks!
Good video, although would have been a lot more handy for everything to have been in normal motion (as opposed to slow motion), so we could judge for ourselves. Also on another note, is America just car parks?
The S5 compared to the G9 and GH5 for dynamic range is amazing! I don't get rid of cameras, I add cameras. Pushing MFT at a sunset with shadows just falls apart but, not the S1R and differently not the S5. It's a whole new much more betterment of better 😆
nice comparison
From a scientific point of view it’s an interesting comparison!… But in practical use no one would switch off the OIS on one‘s camera, using the IBIS only. The S5‘s kit lens doesn’t have OIS, contrary to the 12-35mm f2.8 lens. When I compare the footage taken with my S5 and my G9 with this lens (with switched on OIS, of course), it’s two different worlds!… And (even if it doesn’t belong to the topic of this video), like in your comparison, I definitely prefer the colors and contrasts of the mft camera more!… The only reason why I still keep my S5 is that in combination with its kit lens I get much sharper stills than with my G9 (even in combination with arguably sharpest mft lens Sigma 16mm f1.4) with much more details in front of the point of focus (what was really surprising for me as I expected a shallower DOF in a FF camera)!
First thing I noticed is how the GH5 shows aliasing in this HD 120P mode which the S5 doesn't. 🤓 And in the last comparison the GH5 held out better. Looks like the S5 is fine except if you want to do walking while filming without a gimbal, than the GH5 still does better. But then again, if you regularly walk while filming, getting a gimbal might be a good idea anyway.
Would have been better if you'd showed at least 50/50 of the shots without slow-mo. Not everyone is only interested in variable FPS.
