@RobGibsun

Grateful for this talk Hanif & BMike. I literally just spent 3 hours scouring my google drive for poems and started dropping them in a word document with the word counter on until I hit 30,000! I've been performing poetry for over a decade & this will be my 1st full-length poetry manuscript! 130 pages! The conversation about art that lasts and art that fades really resonated with me and I had an epiphany like "why haven't I published these yet?!"

@NJLR13

The 'progress vs. preservation' and reclaiming objective points made in this conversation were ON POINT. Such a great conversation.

@MrMonopolistic

damn I have to come to YouTube just to hear and see a proper representation of my peers....good work fellas!

Message to the host:
Your voice is the one that we listen to when you’re talking, regardless if someone else is talking, if you can eliminate the confirmation verbiage, β€œright” β€œyeah” etc, and listen deeply, it’ll elevate your content immensely

@ArkVillainy

I appreciate this conversation.

This video is amazing! As a former English teacher, I wish more students could hear from you.

@glitchhollyblue

thank you for the inspiration. excited for my next open mic. not sure what ill perform but some part of it is going to be about this beautiful little plant called wavy leaf soap root. semi domesticated plant of indigenous relationship which provided the Miwok and many others over thousands of years with soap, fiber for rope, food, and even the perfect fiber to make these little brushes they would use to clean the acorn flour from their grinding stones.
This plant is reliant on humans to ritually burn and to maintain meadows and savannas, and yet I find it growing next to the railroad tracks by the dozens, right where all the liberation-graffiti lives sprayed across those walls.
like the spirits know somehow that those things belong together.
peace.

5:20. I like to think of it as planting a seed.... eventually the tree withers but not before doing it's work. It's not meant to be 'immortal art' more like" evergreen" ❀

@SirTR333

I appreciate the comment re the ephemerality and how that was an inspiration early on for you. Something about painters man, y’all seem to tap into that more accurately than other art forms. Salutations and thank you for the opportunity to listen!

@MelMelx365

I’m a old head but I got some bars,some gems from this especially at the 8:08 mark
