I appreciate that Scottie always reminds his audience to use jack stands. It's such a simple thing but it could literally save someone's life.
I have done this on my 02 Highlander every few years. Drain and replace the exact amount with Toyota ATF. Shifts like a dream 👍👍 Thanks Scotty
I opened the return line in my 2006 corolla to flush the old fluid, used the max life multi vehicle Valvoline, it is a Toyota , took it like a champ, 167k miles and runs like new. Thanks Scotty
My Ford Edge was shifting poorly out of park. Did a partial swap and mixed after market Valvoline with the original fluid. It immediately corrected the issue and shifts perfectly now.
Scotty, you are exactly in target as usual. If people understood the complexity of automatic transmissions, they would hopefully have them serviced regularly Just moved into a ‘22 Lexus RX450LH crossover. After researching Toyotas’ eCVT I had to have one! No torque converter (complete fluid changes each time), and no clutch packs or bands (to wear and no friction materials to contaminate fluid). The design is pure genius, and is proven after twenty years of spotless Prius service. It has a 100K service internal, I agree with you and follow a 40K interval as instructed by my respective transmission instructor at my local technical school. Fluid is cheap, transmission overhauls are not.
1998 honda civic LX manual 5 speed!! 160k miles on it!! Amsoil manul trans fluid change every 40k miles , Amsoil engine oil change every 5k miles ! Timing belt / water pump every 100k miles with valve adjustment as well! Fuel filter change every 30k. Just got done with new ball joints upper and lower , inner outer tie rods , doing all the bushings in the rear end next !! Superb gas mileage, Scotty is right they don’t make them like they used to!!! Thanks Scotty you have saved me hundreds maybe even thousands of dollars!! SCOTTY IS DA MAN!!!!
Always open the fill plug before the drain plug! If the fill plug is seized, and you drain out all the fluid, you can only tow it to the shop! If you find out it's seized, you can just drive it to the shop!
"No dip-sticks anymore...the EVIL SWINES took them out" LOL!!!!!!!!!
Welcome back to life Scotty and I’ve crapped myself
Well said Scotty Don't throw it in a ditch please Just recycle it I respect him for that
I have a 2007 Camry with 70,000 miles. I’m going to change some of the transmission fluid pretty soon here. I want to see that car run to 300,000 miles❗️
Thanks Scotty I'm on it . Just did a complete tune up on mt 4.3 ,2007 pick-up. What a difference in running too
Instead of saying the oil will last the life of the transmission, they should be saying the transmission will last the life of the oil.
A couple months ago I drained 6 quarts of ATF out of my car and put 6 quarts back in. First time ever done and my car had 115,000 miles. My car is still running good so far. Haven’t had any issues. The old fluid was a orangish color rather than black, which was a good sign. Not much debris on the magnets either.
Thank you Scotty for these videos! I didn't know much about cars but now I keep my cars well maintained!
Yeah I used amsoil drain and fill on my 2014 nissian rogue CVT... Works perfectly fine. 282k KM original transmission. So you CAN combine different fluids. The Nissian dealer wanted 2x the price for the fluid, i said forget it!
Would’ve preferred to see this process on a sealed Toyota transmission
I bought a used Toyota Sienna 2006 with 233,000 miles on it. It had a slight slip in the transmission when it tried to downshift in a lower gear. Nothing major, just a lag of time, then a find and grab. So, It didn't get worse but I decided to change the the fluid, the whole fluid and filter too. I pumped out the fluid by disconnecting the line to the radiator and pumping out a quart at a time and refilling. That plan went perfect. Anyway it took 12 quarts of Toyota transmission fluid. Nothing changed on the slip. It has 256,000 miles on it now. I'll just drive it till it stops working. It's a $2,600 purchase 5 years ago. If I find out it could be fixed easy or at a low cost then i would repair it. But, its not getting worse and I can live with it. Still, an Amazing good vehicle, glad to own it.
The matrix it’s so easy to change the transmission fluid, and even changed the strainer as well. My wife’s matrix got totalled back in January and boy I miss it. That thing was a dream to work on. She got a CRV which you can change the fluid and filters but is not as easy Scotty’s right. Use the factory fluid. Even all data tells you to use factory fluid.
