Is it sad me and my friend were in the audience at the cosplay contest there, and right when the hosts kept messing up the names and everything, me and my friend looked at each other and said “wow we can’t wait for Sarah to upload her video on this” LMAOO

@Auskbear

The disability support at Momo was insanely bad. Our friend had a wheelchair and trying to get around was a nightmare. We were really close to the incident that caused the evacuation and it took us ages to back away from it and get outdoors due to how poorly the elevators run.

@PaladinPrintworks

Im so glad you liked my funny cornstarch hem!

It was a fun experience overall as a competitor, but there was a lot of issues for sure. I really sympathize with the female presenting cosplayers that were subject to such disrespectful behavior from one of the emcees, and those that felt their participation wasnt even worth a few moments to practice pronunciation.

@MiraiMoria

Hello! I was the Madoka at 31:40.
The mispronunciation actually skewed my performance a bit. I tried to cut my time short and went on the stage before the exchange was finished. I also forgot my poses. I was thinking that time would be stolen from other contestants because of the bit.
"This is my fault for putting down the full title."
Thank you for trying to correct the MC! I appreciate that.
I really feel for Hatsune Miku, Dreamy, because more people are commenting on the MC's mistake. She made that absolutely adorable unicorn plush, and she was such a pleasure to talk to.
What I really enjoy about competing is the other competitors. It's amazing being able to talk about your hobby, and the other person can completely relate. Cheering each other on.
I just don't want the negligence of some of the staff to discourage anyone from competing.
I still had fun, but the staff could definitely do better.

@YayaCosplay

I did not charge Momocon my day rate, but a very reduced appearance fee because I really wanted to participate in the event in 2023 and it was local to me. I had a wonderful time MCing the costume contest with announcing over 200 entrants on my own, doing multiple panels and signing at my booth for 4 days. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun, and I asked the next year if they wanted to work with me again. They said no.
I did not know what kind of impression I left with the coordinators and I’m a bit saddened to hear that a request for any type of work payment was too much.
For what it’s worth, I have no ill feelings toward Momocon or the staff and hope they are learning each year and open to improving. Cosplay is a huge part of this event and I hope they will continue to support the community. ❤

@Nyxxeonn

The way my jaw fell, hearing that the director called Yaya Han 'that asian lady'. The extreme amount of disrespect and let's face it, racism, in just one sentence is insane.

@Spirit0mbYT

Those MCs screwing up some of the names was giving teacher messing up at highschool graduation. Because how in god's name do you not know how to pronounce Hatsune Miku 😭

@reneeosaurus140

When I was a teenager I used to make cosplays out of papiermache and hot glue and when I was fifteen during my third ever con, someone took photos of me and put them on a blog called Most Cringe Cosplays and I was so embaressed and upset that I stopped going to cons all together. About a month ago I went to an anime con with a friend for the first time in over a decade (as someone who's nearly 30) wearing a super lazy cosplay I'd thrown together from thrift store clothes, and I ended up in the masquarade contest purely because I went to watch it and these two teenagers were being turned away because either you needed to be over 18 or to enter with an adult (which hadn't been specified anywhere) and I agreed to walk on with them. After the con while waiting for the tram I was telling my friend about how fun and silly it felt to walk on stage in my silly costume and to be cheered even though I didn't belong there - and an older scotish man at the bus tram stop struck up a conversation telling me all about cosplay and insisting "look up Sarah Spaceman! You ought to watch her videos!"
So I did, I went home and ended up binge watching every video on this channel. I brought an old sewing machine from facebook marketplace and using the information and advice I've learned from these videos I made my first 100% handmade costume as an adult. Last weekend I won my first cosplay contest. It was just a small contest with a handful of people in my catagory, and it being my first real costume it definately had a lot of room to improve - but it's reignited a passion I havn't had since I was a young teenager and I'm already excitedly planning my next costume.
So just wanted to say - thanks for inspiring me to rediscover something so awesome.
And also if you're an older scotish man reading the comments and you recomended this chanel to a random person in a poorly made Link cosplay about a month ago - you rock, thank you.

@j7j3

"That asian lady who asked for too much money" was genuinely jaw droppingly disrespectful. oh my god. i dont even know much about who yaya is other than the videos ive seen where you talk about her but that is a disgusting thing to say about anyone

@kuricosplays

I was maid cafe staff in Hall B. We were never told to evacuate or that anything was happening. We found out through friends and guests who were late for their session.

@Clown.Antics99

I’m the partner of the Rauru contestant and I didn’t capture any video cuz they messed up his name so badly I didn’t register it was him until they said they character so all I got were mediocre pictures, they really dropped the ball. And his name is ANDREW! HOW DO YOU MESS THAT UP IF YOU SPEAK ENGLISH

@userlost_rose

Its really sad, because cosplay contests are supposed to be fun place to share your passion and cosplays you spend MONTHS on. It's so upsetting that so many people had such a negative experience.

@aescheeks

I was the Queen Sonia in this comp, 22:50 thank you SO MUCH for using your voice and speaking up about these problems. I'm from the UK and this was my first ever cosplay comp, I spent 9 months on my cosplay working towards this special moment, just for half of my pre judging time to be spent up by a judge asking questions about my eyeliner and body paint and to be called "Queen Sonia, from League of legends" on stage.

@TaliahBloom

The fact the MC at the cosplay contest called someone a "dommy mommy" in their entrance was really off putting

@sydneyrey1414

As a girl in security myself.. look, I’m Australian so idk if the rules are different but we are taught to say there was emergency, problem etc. due to privacy and avoidance of panic. If there was a bomb I wouldn’t casually say “oh it was a bomb” otherwise it would go from one person freaking out to hundreds freaking out.. soooo

@starlightcrochets

I was the Mulan at 30:05 (my cosplay was fully crocheted ik its hard to see)!! It was my first ever cosplay contest to be in, thank you so much for being such a wonderful judge!

@shamblingabby

Do those judges realize there are people with skin sensitivities to makeup products? I am not good at makeup so I would find it both anxiety inducing and kind of insulting that my makeup was being brought up instead of my cosplay.

@reverist_cal1c0

Hiiii I was the Megurine Luka in the comp!!

Just a quick comment about the mispronunciation n stuff from the emcees: when we were applying, there was a space on the form where we could give pronunciation guides for our character names. I believe that there shouldn’t have been a problem with announcing names because we supplied that, but what do I know. And also, iirc, the guy emcee made comments about some female cosplayers during the contest which were honestly really weird. The whole contest was kind of a blur for me so I can’t remember much 😅

@eladrinecho

Ok i dont see anyone else commenting on this but as someone whos works volunteer staff for the majority of the anime convention in georgia i feel like this needs to be communicated, especially with reasons for emergencies weve seen before.
When theres an ACTIVE evacuation where even the staff is unclear on why the evacuation is happening DON'T try to get back in the building. I understand your time is important but ANYTHING couldve been happening. You need to value your safety, and it makes the jobs of the people trying to ensure your safety harder when you neglect that. Give them time to figure it out before trying to figure it out yourself. Let them focus on ensuring the site is safe for return. The majority of them are volunteers, who are there because they love anime, the community, and the con. I was giving it time to make more me sense, but when someone is saying "get out of the building" and your response is "I'm going to the bathroom" we need to prioritize.
For clarity, I was there at the time of the evacuation. The evacuation occured because an individual on the top floor was making threats to their life as well as those around them, and was intending to leap floors below them in a mental health crisis. This required quick reaction time, less people around for the worst case scenarios, and cooperation to ensure this individual got the help they needed and didnt harm anyone including themself. Attempting to return to the building and/or refusing to leave causes further delays and distraction of resourses, I understand the desire to know whats going on, but when anything couldve been happening you put yourself and others at risk, and likely not being the only one making the same attempts it just adds to the stress that the staff is already dealing with to get the situation handled as quickly as possible
The bathrooms being right there when an evacuation happening and that being the priority worries me, because we have seen enough $#007ings that go very wrong when the restroom is our destination.
I just would like anyone reading this to please consider your safety and the stress of the staff trying to handle any eventuality they may be dealing with and to cooperate as best as possible without too many questions until the time is more appropriate so these situations can be handled properly. The staff is just as scared and confused as you are often times and anyones who been on the clock in an emergency situation with customers inside knows the stress, its adds to it when its such a large scale event
