I have worked in Japan for many years and I am a PR now. Retiring so looking to relocate to more interesting and convenient places like Tokyo, Kyoto, or Fukuoka.

I choose Fukuoka because:
-- Tokyo is too crowded and too expensive, plus the risk of Mount Fuji eruption in next 30 years;
-- Kyoto is beautiful but too hot in summer and too cold during winter, plus the problem of overtourism. The airport is too far. About 75 minutes from Kansai International to Kyoto Station by express train.
-- Fukuoka is just the right size. Not too crowded, not too cold, not too expensive. The airport is very close to the city with direct flight to Singapore.

So I bought a new apartment near the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, which is less than 20 minutes to the domestic airport. Bus transfer to the international airport takes another 15 minutes.
The price is less than 1/3 for properties of similar size and location in Singapore, and it is freehold.

I buy instead of rent because:
-- I want to own a property that I can do whatever decoration I prefer.
-- Yen rate is favorable now, so it could be a good investment.
-- New rental may not be easy to secure as some landlords do not want to rent if you are considered too old. (They do not want you to die alone in their apartment)

If you do not speak some Japanese, it is very challenging to move around. iPhone translation may help in some tourist areas but in daily life, it is better to be able to speak some Japanese, for example:
-- handling paper work for moving in or out in local offices;
-- account opening in banks;
-- visit to clinic or hospital. Some clinics wont accept your appointment if they dont have English-speaking staff;
-- buying furniture, electronic appliances. If you can speak Japanese, you can ask for substantial discount;
-- subscribing wifi and handphone services;
-- if children attending Japanese school, you probably need to appoint a Japanese-speaking person (friend, neighbor or agent) for communication purpose;
-- converting your Singapore driving license to a Japanese one, if you stay for more than a year;
-- understanding the public announcement on the trains or any other places during an emergency or change of schedule.

I am excited that I am moving to Fukuoka soon. I will be very pleased if I bump into any of my fellow country man or woman here!

@justglenc

Congrats! Sometimes we Singaporeans tend to over plan and over think plus living the standard path of school>work>HDB>Family>CPF that we lost the spontaneity and the entrepreneurship spirit. There will be obstacles and deviation of path but we learn and grow. Maintain the harmony and treat it as an adventure. We'll be rooting for you and all Singaporeans currently living abroad! Jiayou!

@Gattberserk

Congrats!! It was a wise move to move out of SG. But remember to take note on the risk of Natural disaster there, such as Earthquake, make sure insurance coverage etc are done proper.

@FullTimeKiller43

Congrats! So happy for you and your wife!🎉 it must be very exciting for you both to start a new journey in such a lovely country.

@isabelwlp

So happy for you! That's my agent in Fukuoka. I have invested in Fukuoka for 10 years already.
I am from Sg too. I have left a review about him 😊

@Dosanko44

This is very good video. I am Japanese Living in U.S. for 36 years, many Japanese really consider if water and electricity lines are good in right way and past history on the land since we hear enough story about many cursed locations. Do not forget to talk and meet entire neighborhood around your house if they would welcome you.

@emikomina

congratulations on your new home, I wish you many successful and happy years in Japan

@tangbridgette7172

Congratulations on your purchase. The surroundings around your new house are beautiful.

@InstantLuc

Heya my Singaporean friend. I love SG, even for its flaws your country hosted my wife and I in a way I will forever be grateful for. Thank you. But just like yourself, we decided to move to Japan. Happy for you!

@baileyismyfurkid

Thank you for sharing your journey! There seems to be lots of contents of people moving to Japan, but quite rare from a Singaporean! Also aspiring to make the move, but my husband isn't as spontaneous even though he loves Japan. Hopefully with more contents from Singaporean who made similar moves, he will be swayed😂

@Rockiii9

Really impressive story. Thanks for sharing! Your kids will be fluent in Chinese, Japanese & English; real world citizens! I will follow your vids as I’m anxious to see your adaptation to a new lifestyle. 🤲

I bought mine sight unseen through an intermediary coz I found my house myself and just needed someone to complete the paperwork. Yup agree buying is easy. Renovation took awhile. I got fed up and spent 1 month onsite to source for vendors and furniture I wanted.

@Frank-qs3pe

This video was great !!! Congratulations on your new home !!

Welcome to Fukuoka!

@DonYang73

All the very best in your new life in Japan 🎉 Good luck fellow Singaporean

@yongliangteh7957

I think you made the right decision! Regardless of whether the decision turns out good or bad in future, we get to experience the consequences and it becomes part of our learning journey. Most importantly, you took the deliberate action and played the game of life consciously. Every decision or action taken leads to an iteration, and if we learn from each iteration, our decisions/actions keeps improving. The 'wrong' decision would be to ignore our own gut feel and follow what most people around us are doing (complaining and doing other NPC stuff).

@ritchuuki

Congrats! I am from indonesia and I really want to live in Fukuoka! So envy you!
