My dad fought in the “battle of the Bulge” and received two Purple Hearts two bronze stars three silver stars the French medal of honor & the Distinguished Service cross.
In my 42 years on this planet i have never understood why who fought for the common cause remain enemies. The Americans and Soviets even greeted each other and stopped for a drink together. The Chinese were backed and looked at as an ally by the US/West. Then once WW2 was over they all started hating each other. The Korean war divided China and the US while a Cold War started almost immediately between the West and Soviet Union. Nowadays we are letting Russia claim land from a sovereign state because minorities speak Russian, which is exactly what happened before WW2 kicked off. It's like no one learnt a damn thing from this war.
My mother was born in May of 1942. Her earliest memory is of the celebration of the end of the war.
What a nightmare. The farther we get away from it in time the more likely we are to forget what happened during those awful years.
For the algorithm and beyond. Engrossing and great historical journalism.

Bormans bones were dug up in Berlin in the 1970s but the skull was full of dirt from Paraguay
