I find it ironic that peaceful mode is actually quite terrifying, when you hear you a strange noise at night in easy to hard mode, you can tell that an evil mob is there, but its even more terrifying to hear strange noises when you KNOW very well that you set your world on peaceful

The scariest feeling when alone is when you feel there’s another entity

You're not scared of being alone, you're scared of not being alone, even though you should be...

Never-ending Anticipation is more terrifying than the climax. Youre so used to expecting dangers that never having threats to anticipate just feels wrong. Youre supposed be on guard, preparing for some kind of mob to attack you. You know youre safe, but you cant help but think just what if youre not

@kingofzombies23

One of the scariest moments in peaceful is triggering a skulk shrieker and you freeze. Terrified. Waiting for the Warden. But nothing happens. Makes looting Ancient cities easy but still nerve racking

@secretskull21

Peaceful mode is stress-inducing because it has all the ambiance of danger, but none of the payoff, so your fear response has nowhere to go.

@ShouRBX

The reason why we feel this uneasiness is not only due to the fact that we have the knowledge of how the game normally works, but also our innate primal instincts on how our ancestors overcame the challenges of nature. Nature is cruel to our ancestors, therefore, we are taught to always be alert at all times. When silence is the loudest noise you hear, that would mean there's a possible threat lurking around.

We can apply the same psychology in Minecraft too. But the thing about in peaceful mode, this silence reigns the most. It triggers our innate instinct to always be alert for any possible dangers. But the thing is, we know that there is no danger, so why do we expect that there is danger?

We are experiencing terror, but no horror. Terror is the feeling of dread and apprehension at the possibility of something frightening, while horror is the shock and repulsion of seeing the frightening thing. We keep expecting that something will appear when we are not looking, even though there's actually none. This causes your mind to overthink and always at alert for any small irregularities that can happen.

In short, your own mind is playing with you. It is you, yourself, is the threat.

I watched something similar to this and scrolled through the comments, one sticked with me: “you are alone in this world, you are the cancer, you don’t belong here”

@SHADOWReaper347

Notice the tree trunk is gone when his game crashes and goes back to spawn with nothing, so his world is corrupted from that point forward

@MandoJetii

As someone who normally plays in peaceful mode, I can testify that lava IS deadly and will deprive you of all your enchanted diamond gear if you don't have Keep Inventory turned on. That & fall damage (which is also deadly) are why you don't dig straight down. Even in full diamond armor, you can't just swim out of a lava lake and be fine, you'd need fire res to do that.

@randomguy6556

My forever world is peaceful.
The reason was that I wanted it to be a peaceful and slow gameplay.
I've built small farms and have started to raise up levels for a future town I'm planning on building.
For items hard to find, I just fish for them.
String, bones, and spiders eyes I'll fish for.
Very calm and slow gameplay.

Little did he know that the evil scary caveman was in the cave

@LauraTWannaBe

This is what mode i started on when i was 5, and now as a 16 year old playing on servers with my friends in hard mode, the fear from the cave sounds in peaceful mode still makes me scared of minecraft caves today.. ._.

@Gufy-wc9tu

all shits and giggles until you try to sleep and the chat says "You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby".

@ZacharyAiden-e7u

“You are so comfortable with the horrors of horrors, you find horrors within peace”

@shadow98765

My head cannon for peaceful mode is that there is a creature that makes the weird cave sounds that is invisible to the eyes of most minecraft mobs including the player.

In any other difficulty it lives only underground stalking the player but to shy to attack them.

In peaceful the creature is aggressive, psychologically torturing and killing anything that shows hostility both underground and in the surface. The iron golem can see the creature and knows it will attack the iron golem if it fights back against the player so they do not react knowing death by player is a much better fate than death by the creature.

The creature sees the players hostility so it hunts them and toys with them with the strange cave sounds. But it still never attacks because it is also afraid of the player as it knows how strong the player is.

The world left feeling empty by the creatures endless hunt for peace across all the dimensions.

Im going to call this creature The Formless Horror.

I know no one will probably ever read all this but if you did hi lol👋

@VLADTEODORLEPĂDATU

Peaceful mode was created for people who just downloaded the game, and are trying to learn the basics, and for people who just want to build incredible things, but actually feel the challenge of finding the materials necessary.

@QuickTurtleKL

one time i was playing with my brother in the nether, we kept dying so i switched us to peaceful mode for a few minutes. after we grabbed our stuff, turned the monsters back on and got our rods- we left the nether. but he died again, so we put it back on peaceful (this was training for my brother) then while wondering through the night in the overworld, there were no mobs. "okay, that's weird" i thought. we abused this lag of no mobs spawning to get back to our base. after a while, i realized that mobs- they just weren't going to spawn. i was confused, and slightly scared because i knew they SHOULD have been there, but weren't. it took me about 40 minutes to realize my mistake and switch it back to hard mode. that's why i don't play peaceful mode anymore.
