I prefer DJI. The picture quality looks great, and it's really lightweight.
I hope the DJI Action 6 camera comes out soon. That’s what I need and waiting for!
DJI looks like a little baby among all when placed side by side, so cute 😂 I still prefer DJI ✌🏼
I just bought the X5, but to me, the Action 5 delivers much better final image quality. You can see a lot more detail despite the lower bitrate, and there’s zero noise in the shadows — whereas the X5 shows quite a bit of noise and noticeably less detail. So in terms of image quality, the Action 5 performs incomparably better. If you look at distant objects, the Action 5 clearly shows all the details (grass actually looks like grass), whereas on the X5 it turns into a blurry smudge. However, the X5 offers something extra that we need for what we’re trying to do, which unfortunately the Action 5 can’t provide. Still waiting for the osmo 360
Truly one of your best videos. Well done. Easy to follow, easy to understand, and straight to the point. One small question which i could not get in the side by side videos. Is the low light pure video the same for the ace pro 2 versus the x5? Or which provides the best in low light? Regarding the microphone...what about the new mic solution from insta360? How does that compare to osmo audio?
You make some great points about the X5, but I hate editing 360 video in both the phone app and desktop app. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for these good comparisons. I bought an x5, my first action-camera upgrade since a Hero 7 black. The x5 so far seems to beat that GoPro in any head-on comparison -- maybe won't do super slowmos or something I never do, but that'd be it. It's clear when using it that the video sharpness will not compete head to head with a dedicated action cam when it's in single-lens mode, however, it's pretty darn good for most uses and the fact that it's just that single candybar in the pocket is pretty compelling. I also find the controls, quality of life, etc. much improved over my old GoPro, which was a really, really buggy camera. It often stops recording video but keeps recording sound, and it does this even more often with aftermarket batteries. Trouble is, that's all you can get for it these days. I'm tempted to buy a dedicated cam for the regular action shots -- I think the Ace Pro 2 footage looks the best but the action 5 is great too and a smaller package. Not having to worry about framing things perfectly before the shot or while on the road and trail (or stopping to adjust and make sure the FOV is still good) is another great quality of life improvement you get with the 360 that is hard to appreciate until you experience it. For straight video clips I'd go with my RX100 m7, but obviously those need to be still or gimbal supported and <15 minutes at a time. The insta360 x5 can do things the other action cams cannot, while IMO doing the main thing they do at perhaps 85% level? That's a decent value.
Thanks for the great test this time. Action 5 is really enticing.
This has to be one of the best review and comparison at the same time of all of these cameras, thanks so much for making such a video and putting this much effort. Probably gonna go with Ace 2 pro or X5 as I already have flow 2 pro (thanks for the tip of using ace 2 pro with though). BTW Maldives is so darn gorgeous !!
Really like your review! Being a motorbiker I think I`m leaning towards the Action 5 with MiniMic. But, is it possible to get the lean-angle from the ride when shooting with X5? And how much of a hassle is it editing 360video for MC-related action video when forward looking an lean angle is the dominant scene?
Best creator on YouTube, hands down! Thanks for your unbiased and honest review + your personal experience and recommendation 🎉🎉🎉
Great video breakdown. Already got the X5 and having a great time with it thus far, no issues. 🤗
I liked the picture quality of the GoPro when it was bright lighting. But for me overall that X5 seems the most useful. I'm thinking about getting one and that's why I'm here watching videos like this.
Takk for mange gode og gjennomgående reviews 😁vurdere å kjøpe en X5, har du noen erfaringer med live streaming med X5 gjennom hotspot ?
Thanks Rob. Going with the X5.
Taking atrip to Utah national parks this fall . Decideing between the Insta 364, and goPro Max. I already have a GoPro 12 Suggestions? should I consider the DJI? Which is the easiest to edit?
Thank you very much and greetings from Argentina, I'm going after the X5 too!
Great overall comparison. One note on the slo mo, though: The 960fps on the DJI is done with frame interpolation - meaning the camera is creating the missing frames to the best of its ability. This creates artefacts that are visible on the knobs of the wheels and also on the grass when the tail of the car starts dragging on the grass. A professional editing tool will do a much better job at this, but all in all it's useful as the convenience of in-camera processing is is unbeatable and there's no additional cost.
Although the X5 looked really solid and held up in low light, I'm still not sold on 360 cams (for my particular use case). Did some math with ChatGPT: from 8K 360 footage, 180° = 4K but super fisheye, 127° (like action cam wide) = 2.7K, and 90° (to kill fisheye) drops to 1080. Honestly, I’d just use an action cam on a neck mount — way easier than sticking a selfie stick out of your backpack. I use the Pocket 3 when it’s dry, Ace Pro 2 when it’s wet, and for a second angle, either the Ace Pro 2, GoPro Hero 10 on the neck mount, or just hand it to my son. Editing’s easy — just bounce between the angles.
