The most hilarious part of the $5000 baby bonus isn't even how little that money would make a difference to new parents. It's the fact that the money is given to parents AFTER the baby is born. Based on everything they say and try to legislate, I thought that fetuses are considered babies/people at conception? If they believe that, then why isn't the "baby bonus" being given to people as soon as they know they're pregnant? lol

Fun fact: both Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy considered declining birthrates terrible and gave incentives for women to get pregnant also in the name of "restoring conservative family values". A lot of fascist governments seem to have some obsession with "protecting" the house and home, specifically in a way that makes the family as a structure subservient to the regime's ideals and support them. So, take that with what you will.

9:34 I live in Poland, where the baby bonus got implemented a few years ago, and it fixed nothing. Birth rate is actually worse than in most European countries and it's still declining. And yes, there are people that had a baby just for the money, not to mention that the amount of money goes up everytime we have elections as a part of a campaign and it does have a negative impact on Poland's public finances. A lot of people are advocating to get rid of the baby bonus and replace it with other forms of help for the new parents, but the government doesn't listen, because majority of their voters just want the money. Baby bonus is not a good idea.
