The fact he was being used to fill the void in place of bird for cat had HUGE potential to build on him and give him an arc, just imagine if he had some parallels to bird as well? That would also add so much more tension between the two as the replacement vs the replaced... There was so much there that just wasn't taken advantage of, it almost makes me sad
Dog looks like the attempt at drawing a crescent moon before you get the shadowed section right.
for me I thought they were going use dog as someone who repairs cat and bird relationship like he help fix it and become their new best friend and then we could learn more about him that way, but nah the wizard plot stole the spotlight, the wizard plot really does nothing
I read the comic after watching your original video and I have to say, you're so right. It frustrates me the choices this comic makes. I don't even see a reason for dog to be in the story tbh. Cat could have come to the same conclusions on her own and it wouldn't have even been difficult from a writing stand point. I miss my character driven comic line so much! Especially since I went through the same thing bird did with a friend a few years ago. I know Eggbug said the story will return to normal eventually but they're wasting so much potential in the mean time!
i love how you’ve been branching out to non-animal jam videos lately!!! i love learning/hearing about your interests!!
For real, I don’t even like dog much nowadays at all because he’s … plain. And I’ve tried my best to stick on with the fantasy plot twist but I’m finding it more and more difficult to care about cbd now with each new release. I’m not reading it because I like it anymore. I’m reading it because there’s supposed to be a point where the fantasy thing stops and it goes back to normal.
Personally, if you want to make a trio, DO NOT leave an occurring third character behind the other main two. It basically defeats the purpose of having a trio within the title, and otherwise putting the 3rd character more of what you said: ‘a plot device’ rather than a main character. That’s all I have to say, love your vids and stay safe ❤
He Just a chillguy
dog deserves better like… he should have had some actual development 😭🙏
I’m loving these cat bird dog videos, and I’m excited for when you make your part 2 on the story.
i was gonna read the comments while watching the video but I can’t TOT
This video is so great, it points out everything I also disliked with Dog. Like he’s nice enough but he just doesn’t have nearly as much depth as cat or bird.
I love the new model :D
Omg this is a good vid I love it! We'll kinda the best
This goes for this video and your main one on Cat Bird Dog. Its easier to think of EggBug as this giant studio funded by a corpiration to sell merch with higher ups pushing their agenders onto the poor downtroden artists, but the reality is creators are litterally just two independent creators working on a fun comic together, often paying out of pocket to create this comic. They have planned the entire story from the begining, including the fantasy twist everyone has become very upset about. They knew it was a risk but did it anyway, as they're pationate about their story and believe in their vision which has not played out fully. I think its easy to step back and critise what you think they should have done with their story, with the gift of being able to see how the audiance will react after they realesed it, but these are people who have never made a webcomic before and like I mentioned isnt even a source of income for them so are juggling other projects behind the scenes whilst making it. While some of the critism might be valid, just know that the vision for cat bird dog is not yet complete so I dont think its fair to judge the incomplete feeling of either the main twist or specific characters and their arcs. With these videos of yours, I'm reminded of the speech in ratatouille about being a critic, 'In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends.' I know you keep saying 'I love cat bird dog' tying to act as a friend to the comunity but these clickbaity titles are really starting to rub me off the wrong way, leeching off the popularity of the comic and current discord in the comunity that claims to not understand what the characters and story is about when it isnt even close to finishing. I admitedly have no clue where the story is going or whats the character arcs will look like, but just know that it is going in the direction that the creators, who made the orginal romance story yall love so much, alway had planned. Who knows maybe by the end of it youll be able to step back and look at the whole plot and actually enjoy the story they're trying to tell. Or maybe you won't. Thats the nature of art I guess
Why couldn’t the artist make a spin-off and leave the original comic as slice of life? Really jarring status quo change
Hey Leamon! So i wanted to compare Dog's situation to the villains in Vivziepop's show called Helluva Boss. She's an indie show animator for both this show and Hazbin Hotel. There are a ton of "villains" who don't really have any fleshed out motives or anything at all, and are basically just there for her to make merch. Two of them, Stella and Striker, had so much potential. Striker is actually my fav character, but her second season ruined him in one episode. He was introduced in S1 as this cool cowboy/bounty hunter that seemed intimidating and badass and in S2, he was absolutely destroyed. S1 was so good, while S2 is just a bunch of filler. It is about Hell and some no-no scenes, so you don't have to watch it if you don't wanna XD. Again, like Dog who's just their for filler/plot armor, i feel like Viv's villains are too. She's a greater animator but a terrible writer, and it's a shame that her "villians" were ruined in 2 years/12 episodes. Like one of her villains is a mafia boss. IN HELL. LIKE CMON!
(Amanda's daughter here!) do BFDI and all of its seasons (BFDI, BFDIA, IDFB, BFB, TPOT) also, nice discussion video!
Is it just me but does the purple bird kinda remind me of the duckling from the Mo Willems Pigeon books
