I honestly feel like when certain people get a vibe from you that you're intelligent and competent, they'll give you a hard time to make themselves feel superior. Instead of lifting themselves up, they'll push you down. It's most definitely a hostile work environment that also affects the patients. It's just awful

@truettrusler1485

Episode205,Miss,run don't walk out of there.Ive had jobs,with little training& berated for not knowing how to.I WOULD leave for the day,replaying it on my time off.Your mental health is most important.

@Lovely-sv1ye

This makes me so sad. I feel for you girl. Going through the same thing at work except most of my coworkers speak another language at work (my country’s official language is English). I have lost out on opportunities and promotions because I don’t speak their language and because of nepotism. I know they talk crap about me right in front of my face and I have also accidentally seen a snarky Teams message mocking me. I am apprehensive about going to HR because it would be easier to get rid of me than to get everyone else to change their behavior. I just try to stay positive, be nice to everyone, and focus on my work. But it hurts.

@brendashope1558

I have seen this in so many medical offices. Particularly when there are family members involved. I am so sorry Sierra, what an unnecessarily stressful situation. I hope the new location is better for you!

@ofkgjsl

I was that. Being the intelligent one in an environment of mediocre people who try SO hard to appear as the best plus if the employer is encouraging a competitive mindset (promoting only the top 10%, constant goal post movement, bar raising etc), you get pushed down and mobbed out real fast. They are quick to form a herd mentality for survival. When I joined, I was asked to improve processes and pointed out what was wrong and found all the defects. However I was oblivious to work politics. They were all covering up their bs to rise up. So having me as an outsider to uncover the mess, was a BIG threat to them. I think I actually was hired to clean up the mess and act as the scapegoat for layoffs. Corporate environment is crazy

@123girlie

I‘m experiencing the exact same thing at my job…

@ewaesc

Unfortunately, that’s the medical office industry. I worked in many different offices and they all had cliques, all had bullying, demanding providers, clients and managers. That’s the industry. On that note there are people in them that you can connect with and have understanding managers. It depends on the place 💯 but for the most part I found that there is always that one character that darkens the space. It bites and I’m so sorry that you’re going through this.

@user-sr4xo8on6i

I think the only way to get rid of this crap is to get used to the job so that no one can be mean to you.
I also had a similar experience ( it wasn't as tough as this, but it was still really toxic)and as I got better and better at the job, people didn’t treat me like I was just new to the organization.

@victoriabungart4330

This is almost exactly like my job experience at a nonprofit organization. Inadequate training, staffing change 2 months into the job and my new supervisor was nowhere near as kind and welcoming as my previous one. even down to the "you've been here so long, you should know better!" Sep-Feb is barely 6 months .... End of March, they fired me.

@mariosh2

Wow very good content, found this after youtube recommended me a short

Hey Erin, I have a question: I've only started working a few years ago and I am big on personal boundaries. At a few of the companies I've noticed either the manager of employees pretend like it's the most normal thing ever to take work home and do work in your free hours. So far I have resisted doing this, but then i am shamed in not having the right mentality. Is it good to not work in personal hours and how do I go about mentioning this without it becoming something negative about me?

@Roshea

Some form of this workplace "culture" exists in at least a third of companies in the US.
The best and possible only effective way of circumventing it is finding the few or singular individuals in your company that are willing to help and work with you 1-on-1.

@patriciaflickner5392

Holy shit. This first story is me

@brentkillian

Dang what a bunch of tools

@NicolasGonzalezCardona

Hello!! I'm new to this channel — I've been working in HR for two years now, and I wanted to ask something out of genuine curiosity.

I totally understand that this situation is difficult, and I admire that Sierra is brave enough to speak openly about it. What I wanted to ask — and I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way — is why do you emphasize so much that she's capable and doing a great job without actually knowing her work directly?

I'm definitely not saying she's not good at what she does — not at all! But I do feel that sometimes, in situations like this, too much positivity or reassurance without context might come across as a bit forced or even invalidating to the complexity of the situation.

Of course, no one deserves to be treated badly, and I 100% support kindness and empathy. But I'm genuinely curious about your approach — is it more about supporting the person emotionally regardless of performance? Or do you know something specific about her work that made you so confident in saying that?

@Alicia-LM

I wonder how her coworkers feel, just asking because this is very one-sided

@CristineHarman-d3d8n

People are just plain shitty!!

@nanemoon9968

Hi Erin, could you remove those fake adds in the comments, please.

We have different teams with totally different chemistry at the company I'm in since 2010.
From nice and productive to downright hell. I was lucky with my last promotion but now I see politics taking over with a member of our far-right party and several supporting their views. I insist I don't talk politics but it's getting harder to overhear their comments.

@AntonioBenson-u9l
