Something about Gwendy's animation that I feel needs to be emphasized is that Polites slowly disappears as a way of showing that while Odysseus still misses him, he has "accepted" his departure, while his mother "explodes," or rather "breaks," as a symbol of how he feels upon discovering her death, especially because he wasn't with her in her final moments.

I’ll be honest, I always just assumed that Circe’s instructions were basically “once you get to the Underworld, keep moving until you find the prophet” since that’s literally the next line, but it’s not entirely clear what they were specifically

I always interpreted Circe's instructions to be: "No matter what you hear, keep going (full speed ahead), until you find the prophet". Kinda like a warning to not stop for anything except the prophet. Like Circe can keep them safe in there only if they do what she has gotten the permission for them to do. (Kinda like Aladdin and the Cave of Wonders. Had he and Abu only touched the Lamp the cave would not have collapsed)
