deep sea girl is probably my favorite song from vocaloid
I guess you could say this song is... deep
What a song. It's one of the few written so well, you feel the emotion conveyed in the song without even having to understand the lyrics
It seems like a story about a girl who suffers from depression but falls in love with a boy who she sees as perfect and optimistic and part of that "surface world" she could never be apart of. She desperately wants to though, and at first she does try to reach out to him but "[her hand] was carried out of sight by the waves". Then, when he does finally notice her, she gets embarrassed and retreats, withdrawing back into herself again. Withdrawing back into her depression and isolation. She's afraid to open up and be vulnerable. Perhaps she has been hurt in the past by somebody? Maybe she had her heart broken in the past or she was betrayed by someone close to her. Or maybe she was physically/sexually/emotionally abused. In the song she says "My clothes have been dirtied so, my smile been shamefully warped. Do I look like I want to get along with anyone...? Just leave me alone!" This further leads me to believe she has been severely hurt in the past and that, most likely, she was abused in some way (or possibly a combination of ways.) The fact that she says "my clothes have been dirties so, my smile been shamefully warped" makes me think perhaps she was sexually abused and feels she is no longer "pure" or perhaps she means it in a metaphorical way, as in her depression and trauma (in the case of physical/emotional abuse) has stripped her of her innocence and smile. Or, again, it could be a mix of two or more of those things. Finally the girl tries one more time to reach out to someone, and the boy, having fallen for her and determined to rescue her, grabs her by the arm and pulls her up out of her sea of depression. He tells her, "See, you've been hiding brilliant colors, too..." He believes that, despite all that has happened to her, she still has beautiful colors within her as well that she has been hiding. Those same colors she used to have prior to her depression/trauma/abuse are still there, and just as she sees him as beautiful in his own way, he sees her as beautiful in her own way. The boy rescues her from her grief and shows her how to be happy and enjoy life again, and she begins on the road to recovery from her depression. This time, she has someone by her side to help her.
i already know morfonica is going to cover this beautifully.
WHO'S THE THE GIRL IN BLACK UNDER THE SEA? HATSU-NE MI-KU!
This definitely feels like a song about self isolation and a state of depression (mind you, her dress color). And the ending really sounds like her love helping her out of that state of recession.
THE NOSTOLGIA, BRO HOW DO I STILL KNOW ALL THE LYRICS
this is one of the first vocaloid songs i ever heard...... and everytime i hear it now hits me with nostalgia
I waited 12 years to see this live and I honestly teared up when it happened. MIKU EXPO 2024 made it possible even though it was a screen. I remember listening to this song while I studied and the thought of getting to see Miku actually perform it helped me try harder. It was such a surreal experience.
if she's sinking then she doesn't breathe. She doesn't have air in her.
2:57 marine snow is when it “rains” fish crap at the bottom of the ocean. You’re welcome
Ah, such a pretty song. So relatable, I wish someone would come rescue me from my sea of depression... Judging by the English translation, it seems like a metaphor for depression, sinking deeper into the sea with each depressive episode and rising in times of joy. It really captures it well; people don't realize being depressed doesn't necessarily mean being sad all the time. Depressed people have their ups and downs, and people with depression can sometimes suffer depressive episodes in which they feel especially depressed, more so than usual. Likewise, people with depression can also have periods of better moods and happiness. Just cause a person has depression doesn't mean they're devoid of all other feeling. Depression can also manifest in many different forms, not just sadness. This is all also true of bipolar disorder and many other mental illnesses.
Younger me watching this: omg Younger me:*acts like Miku for a whole 3 years*
I legit forgot how good this song was
