Watching this while YouTube is watching me.
I got really pissed off when they started deleting the audio jack, micro sd slot and they stopped shipping with chargers. I'm talking to you Samsung. And I hate the Samsung bloatware.
Rob, as a guy in the IT sector (a little too much, lol), I really look up to you and you have inspired some ideas in me. Keep publishing this content, my friend!
How did you know I'm shopping for a new phone. Perfect timing.
I cannot wait for the Brax3! Well done!
It's funny how some phones are getting the ability to track accidents and especially health issues. Imagine if the phone can purposely make a person panic about their health and get them to spend money on pharmaceutical medicines and doctor visits instead of home remedies for treating a common cold.
I have a Fairphone 4 and it is a pretty standard cheap Android (but it is NOT cheap itself). What makes it special is it's serviceability. You can easily take it apart and replace all parts. Privacy is not their concern. But all drivers are openly available.
I've been degoogling a LG I managed to take most of Google operating systems off....I also developed some apps that could run on LG still with games social media area radio streaming area ....ive been learning about this since 2020....this channel is awsome keep it up I enjoy these videos helps threw my journey of development and learning..
I have a degoogled Fairphone 3 and it works perfectly. It is old school in that the battery is removable and replaceable. It doesn't have flagship specs but unless you're gaming it doesn't matter. ;)
"Non-Caveman Alternatives" lol, I loved that
Rob, would love you to follow up with another video discussing governance around these open source projects combating supply chain risk. The recent issue with XZ Utils comes to mind. I can't imagine that all of these projects are governed equally. How can the average privacy informed consumer tell the difference? Would love to hear your perspective as always.
Rob, could you please make a brief video on Linux phones anyway since many of your followers are from Europe. Myself included watching your videos from Denmark. I would like to learn more from you since your explanation is clear and easy to understand for even beginners. Rare to find when you are searching for knowledge on youtube. Thank you so much for uploading these educational videos. Wishing you happy holidays.
Good luck on the release! As someone with small hands, and a one handed swiper, I'm still holding out for someone to bring back a < 5" Android-capable device. In the meantime, I've got two 7yr old Sony Compact xz1 phones that I'm keeping alive with LineageOS.
There is one more Option: (at least in europe) shiftphone 8 with Shift-OS-L (also degoogled anrdoid) and the phone is repairable and even has hard killswitches for camera and microphone.
I've been watching your channel now for a couple of years, today I just came across this video and noticed I was not subscribed. I really wonder if Youtube unsubscribed me as I was pretty sure I was subb'd to your channel before.. Google Shenanigans! Thankyou for posting this video, more people need to be aware of privacy issues on mass marketed phones.
It’s amazing how just saying out loud “Oh I wish my new phone had better privacy features.” Then YouTube showed me this video. The irony in that eh?
Headphone jack? I’m sold!
have a Huawei 👌🏼I'm not forced to use any programs , long battery time too. My old Motorola makes decisions for me that I disagree with but it continues to do it !
Nice summary. It's comprehensive while still staying simple and to the point. All your videos are comprehensive, but sometimes they can be a bit long and hence hard for people to listen to, but I wouldn't say that it was the case here. One thing that might have helped the video would have been to add screenshots of the GUI, or even just their logos or website or such. Really great to hear about the affordable price for the Brax 3 device.
