I cant wait for this channel to hit 50k subs by the end of the year. You make insane content
I am obsessed with the Steam Deck, I use mine everyday since 2022. The reason is the build-in controls and steam-input. No other device on the market can match the utility those provide.
Dude I NEED A STEAMDECK MINI PLEASE
I want a Steam console that directly competes with PlayStation. Imagine playing all your Steam games from your PC, Steam Deck/handheld with SteamOS and a console.
Okay mate, all pf my recommendations of YT was your videos for some time. Time to subscribe, great content!
I held off because of how big the Steamdeck was. After using the Retroid Pocket 5 for two months, even the Switch seems too big for what I prefer.
Crazy to think that the tech could progress far enough for us to have handhelds as small as the retroid pocket 5 playing full fat pc games with steamOs
I want a SteamOS device in 3DS size, and I'd be okay with it not being as powerful as the current steam deck. It'd still be powerful enough to play tons of indie games, old games and emulation
If Valve comes out with a Steam Deck Mini I'll definitely buy it.
Definitely would love a steamdeck mini. I love my retroid pocket 5, and the odin 2 portal looks like a good middlepoint in terms of size, but the steamdeck provides such a lovely experience from OS to ergos and general build quality.
Mythical video pull 🔥 Switch lite-sized Steam Deck would be such a game changer, even if they reduce battery size or TDP
That reflection in the intro is so smart and cinematographic for no reason
Prime easily made a compact desktop mini PC out of a broken stim deck. The motherboard of the steam deck turned out to be surprisingly small. On its basis it is already possible to make a demo version of a mini Steam Deck. No need to wait for Valve to deign to do it. We just need to take and make a mini version based on the existing board. Thankfully, 3D printers are very affordable nowadays. Make a case and place the motherboard + battery + control elements in it. And voila. A demo version of the mini stim deck is ready. It would be possible to make quickly replaceable battery and replaceable blocks "left stick + cross" and "right stick + ABXY". But that's just wishful thinking. Even if we have to give up track pads. That would be a great demo. And then kickstarter it and go ahead. Make a mini version. It will probably even be possible to make a deal with Valve and buy motherboards from them. Maybe they might even want to buy the project and produce a mini-version themselves. I just need someone to do it. Unfortunately, my skills are too weak for that. I can't do it. Yeah, and I don't have a lot of tools. But isn't there a handyman who would take on a project like this? upd: And here's a dude who made his own DIY version, based on Steam Deck hardware. So it's not that hard for those who know how to do it. https://youtu.be/7uqis3KFYeo?si=s09vaRDqOWeHjDDg
Most amazing video i have yet to see
I think it's very likely something like this is coming down the road, the issue right now is power and efficiency limitations. Power is an issue because as you alluded to in your video, for a lot of folks this is their "gaming PC" and they want enough power so that they can play their games without a ton of fiddling with TDP, game settings, etc. Efficiency is an issue because you need efficient chipsets to make smaller, lighter handhelds a reality. More efficient hardware means less heat generated, so you can pack things into a smaller space without thermal issues. It also means you can put smaller batteries in these handhelds without having a big negative impact (batteries are heavy and they take up a lot of space.) My guess is that in a few years, we'll see substantial improvements in both these areas and a mini Steam Deck will be more feasible. It's probably already possible now, but the sacrifices to make one would be so large that it's just not worth it yet. I don't know about other manufacturers, but my guess is that Valve wouldn't be interested in making a smaller Steam Deck until it could do so in a way that the new smaller model would be at least equivalent in performance to the old ones, while hitting a similar price point.
The fact that it looks like janormous brick is the only reason I haven’t bought one yet. I like my handhelds fairly small and portable.
Really enjoyed your take and commentary! Keep it up man. I don't even got a steam deck myself. Despite your wants, it sounds like Valve's current R&D department is working on the next generation Steam Deck. That said, personally super excited to for the Switch 2 though. Feel like my GTX3060 PC and my switch are the perfect duo. Excited to play Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part II Remastered on PC this year when they like - actually run decently lol. The Sony PC ports always release in such broken states.
My dream is a small Steam Deck that I could put in my pocket with similar perfomance and battery. That would be amazing
this is a fantastic thesis, would easily order one of these before ordering a more powerful one at this time with my steamdeck use cases especially with streaming.
