Honestly what the fireflies needed to do was more tests. She wasn’t “Immune” she is infected, she’s just asymptomatic. They needed to figure out what was different about her infection and try to replicate it rather than just going for an immediate removal of the fungus. Even if they got that sample, it could have just died without its host and they would have lost everything anyway.

There’s a theory that Ellie actually isn’t immune, the theory is that she IS infected with the cordyceps but a different kind of cordyceps where it battles off the zombie cordyceps and that’s how she isn’t affected by the fungi
