At its most successful, Doctor Who was a fusion of science fiction and gothic horror. In abandoning those eerie, atmospheric roots, it lost the dark magic that once made it timeless.

First time happening upon your channel. Me saying “of course they were” to people warning about agenda overtaking the story being shouted down and ignored, just moments before you said the same, tells me I’m gonna like it here. Found my way from Acheeto’s mention in one of his vids. I’m a digital artist and teacher, and I’m a woman who has survived childhood and other trauma, including those of an adult nature when I was only 8… and I have mental health things I’m working on, many caused by the aforementioned stuff… but I’m not a “female r-survivor and anxiety artist”, I’m an artist, and I happen to be, have experienced, or be working through those other things… but they’re not, and shouldn’t be, my identity. Gender, race, sexual preferences, and mental health shouldn’t be all you bring to the table. I can subtly convey the childhood trauma and struggles around psychological abuse by my mother through my sci-fi horror graphic novel with otherworldly trees without shoving it down the audience’s throat. You can, and should, tell a good story and sprinkle in these things - let the genders, mental health, race, and sexual orientation fall where they may - not shoehorn as much of it in as you can, just because.

There was a golden era of sci fi 20 years ago. Star trek, star wars, dr who Battlestar galactica. We never knew how good we had it. Edited to add ok 20-30 years ago. but the stuff that had ended was still in your mind and recent ish.

Its depressing to contemplate what happened to doctor who. It was the pinnacle of Saturday night television and bought us some of the best sci-fi stories ever seen like "blink", "empty child" and "silence in the library ". Now i didnt even know the new series of Gatwa was even on, and even worse: i didnt even care that it was on. Its true what they say, apathy is worse than hatred
