Never dry fired a bow after 60 yrs of shooting, never seen a bow blow up. Definitely heard about it.
For the people that don’t know why dry firing a bow is a problem and have only ever been told not to, the bow creates all the energy when you pull it back and releases it onto the arrow making it shoot. If the bow doesn’t have an arrow it has nowhere to send all the energy it created therefore the cams (top and bottom circles on the compound bows) will take majority of the force and it almost always will snap the string and sometimes knock the cam off the bow from what I’ve seen.
I know fuck all about archery but the one thing I remember from a single archery lesson in middle school gym class was to not dry fire the bow
The first guy was strange, there was definitely an arrow nocked, and it didn’t seem like he even triggered his release, it just… blew up.. old unmaintained bow/strings perhaps?
Man, I had this guy shooting arrows at a target, while sending his sister downrange to retrieve the arrows he was still shooting at the target. I had to walk over and took his bow and dropped it off at the front desk with the range master. I had it on video.
I'm an old man who still loves his old fashioned Bear Kodiak Magnum Recurve Bow. The old ways still work.
Same reason i shoot at a gun range that requires you to be a competitive shootor or be evaluated for safety by one before you can join.
Compound bows are more like a machine that flings an arrow. It's important that the user understands how it operates. Just like any other weapon. Compounds are so vastly different than traditional bows that they do need to be approached differently.
I'm so grateful for having a home range. I don't have to train around hazards. Bows explode when you shoot them without an arrow.
Reminds me of the time. When I pulled up and a buddy shot an arrow when he was drawing. He didn't think I noticed. Until I said "I wonder where that landed" Then he got all worried . We stay there shooting and never. heard anything. Arrow went into next county for sure.

Through ten years of selling bows and archery tackle in my own shop, I managed to avoid dry-fire disasters. I can't honestly say that I miss the experiences, even though I met some wonderful people and had interesting conversations! The biggest compromise was trying to get away to go hunting myself, instead of spending long hours setting up bows and building arrows on the threshold of season-opening days!
The dry shots are insane. Like dude... One. YouTube. Video. Would. Tell. You. 😂
Thank you for the video bro made me smile today to think that I've shot for 40 years and God has blessed me with never dry firing a bow. I'll have a bowl blow up on me I think I would have permanent Target Panic LOL. You have a nice setup too bro
My man got his whole life packed in that bino pack lol
Former UFC fighter turned Bellator fighter Cory Anderson what a random place to find him. Making bow content then again on JRE he did say he loved to bow hunt
Good to see Corey doing well post-retirement 🤙
There's a reason why there's usually a sign at the store that says never dry fire a bow...
I dry fired a bow once. Was all by myself as the range at the time, so saved myself a little embarrassment but of course I had the walk of shame to the bow shop. With no weight on the string it broke the sound barrier. One of the string weights shot off and caught me in the arm. Another in my side. It was the end of my Realm SR6.
